Great OBGYN please!
Hi Fellow Park Slopers,
I posted a few months back asking for recommendations for a general practitioner and got an amazing reference! Now, I'm hoping to have such luck again with an OBGYN. I'm not pregnant, just need someone for my yearly check up, etc. I prefer it to be a women but it is not completely necessary. Also, she/he doesn't necessarily have to be in Park Slope either. Manhattan is fine too. Oh, also if you know whether they take Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield that would be a GREAT plus too!
Thanks in advance!

i'll reiterate what i always say when it comes to this topic: avoid dr. fuchs at all costs. -
dr. fuchs? really? that's pretty classic.

meaning?

Brooklynpotter, I second the warning about Dr Fuchs.
BTW, the "joke" (which comes up often when her name is mentioned) appears to be that "Fuchs" is pronounced "Fux." Oh, only it's not -- it's a pretty common name, and it's pronounced "Fyooks." But hey, whatever gives the folks a giggle  . -
I highly recommend Dr. Catherine Goodstein. I've been going to her for my yearly exams for a couple years now and recently had minor surgery with her (it was as good an experience as I could have wanted).
She practices with Downtown Women in SoHo, an office with several other female doctors. You can find more info on their web site, http://www.downtownwomen.com/.
The web site says they accept Empire Blue Cross / Blue Shield for "established patients of the practice," so I don't know if they would take yours. -
I see Dr Raymond Wong at New York Downtown Hospital in the financial district. He was my gyn and he also delivered my daughter. I was hesitant about going to a man but I LOVE him. Very sweet guy and a great doc.

I agree. All of the doctors at Downtown Women are fabulous. I go to Leslie Gruss, but have had surgery by Dr. Goodstein. The entire practice "shares" cases as needed. -

I second that warning against Dr. Fromberg. Six or seven years ago, I visited her for a treatment that required nitrogen. After a long wait, and after undressing, I was told the nitrogen tank was empty and wouldn't be refilled till later in the week. I rescheduled, revisited (and waited a long time) ... and once again was told they were out of nitrogen. I couldn't believe this oversight had happened twice. On top of everything, I was billed for both visits. (I tried to contest the bills but they kept putting me off, saying they couldn't find my files or they had to talk with their billing service, etc. I eventually gave up.)
Granted, no personal harm was done to my body -- my experience is nothing compared to the case described in the lawsuit. But I was pretty shocked at the negligence. I remember having the distinct impression that Dr. Fromberg and her office didn't think their oversight was a big deal. I know it's not that unusual for doctors to make you wait a long time or to have bad beside manners, but Dr. Fromberg's conduct came off as very careless to me. Needless to say, I switched doctors. -
How about a good male OB?GYN in Park Slope?

I think Dr. Abrahams iat Brooklyn Women's Services in Bayridge is great. He explains everything patiently and answers all questions, he responds to calls and is over all a great doctor. He delivered both my banbies.

Another recommendation for Downtown Women. I've seen both Dr. Leslie Gruss and the nurse practitioner Elisabeth Newsom. Excellent care both times.
-
I got to Downtown Women, too, and see Dr. Goodstein. We had a recent disappointment, and she was incredibly caring about it all. I've seen other docs there and they are all top-notch, but Goodstein has a place in my heart.

I've been going to Dr.Shawna Hedley at Comprehensive Women's Heath for years and think she's great. She's in midtown right next to Grand Central.

If you're not adverse to midwives, the Park SLope Midwives are great and so is the OBGYN they practice with.
