Did I pay my cleaner the right amount? — Brooklynian

Did I pay my cleaner the right amount?

Based on recommendations here, I called Si Se Puede (sp?) and got someone to come over today to help me clean my kitchen and bathroom. They said that since it was my first time, the cleaner would estimate once she got there and saw the space.

The cleaner (who didn't speak much English) looked at the kitchen and bathroom and said it would be $60.00 (I have a huge kitchen). When I asked her to repeat, she pointed to the contract which said, "$60-$80 or $20/hour, min. 3 hours".

Anyway, she was here 3 hours and 35 minutes. I gave her $80 - the $60 estimate plus a $20 tip. She didn't seem happy with the $80. I'm not sure if I should have figured it per hour which would have been $70 (3.5 hours @ $20/hour) + $20 = $90. I have a call into the company to see if I misunderstood the amount (not to get her in trouble).

Thoughts?

  • Yeah, call the office. That sounds like something that would happen to me. It does seem like a confusing situation.

    How did she do?
  • The website says $90 for an average-size one bedroom...

Were you satisfied with the results? Would you use them again?
  • I was definitely satisfied with the results. I thought that a $20 tip was generous on top of the $60 estimate. I called the company and they said that my cleaner was feeling rushed because she didn't feel like she had enough chance to clean my place properly before she had to go somewhere else. However, when I asked point blank if I had paid the right amount, there was a little waffling (but they were nice about it).

I'm, obviously, a little confused because I was paying the estimated amount plus what I thought was a generous tip.

OP and JLOM - I appreicate your responses. Thanks!
