  • Brook Vin takes their Old Fashioned so seriously they're not even serving it right now because cherries are out of season. I'm annoyed and impressed at the same time.
  • Oooo Quarter does have great, interesting and rotating cocktails. But damn, Gretch, it's small. Don't let everyone know!

I'm not sure I understand, do they use fresh cherries? Old Fashioned's traditionally use maraschino cherries, which are preserved so they don't really have a season.
  • Yeah, brookvin put maraschinos in my manhattan........
  • They use fresh. Infuse the bourbon with it. Granted neither of those ingredients are classic old fashioned ingredients but it's a good drink.
  • Getting way off topic here, but....

Last night I was at Flipster's with four other guys, drinking and eating for 5 hours. I picked up the tab, spent a total of about $500. Not once did the owner give us a buyback, offer dessert, or even come visit us at the table. Am I wrong to be a little pissed?
  • Yeah, you're ridiculously off topic, start a new thread. But to answer your question, yeah, I think you're wrong. You were provided a service and you paid for that service. Why does that service have to come with a coupon? If you want to buy food and get a coupon, McDonalds sounds like a better bet.
  • Brook Vin's Horseradish Martini & Two Boots' Cajun Bloody Mary. No intended horseradish theme, those are just my two favorites in the slope.
  • How the fart did you spend $100 per person at Flipsters? apps, burgers and fries is like $15 per person. $85 per person in drinks? Even I don't drink that much. But, the owner and the bartenders have given buybacks while at the bar only, never at tables.
  • There were 5 of us from 4:00 to 9:00. We had apps, burgers (sent a tuna burger via delivery to the wife), and a lot of drinks.

Usually if I have 2 drinks I'm ready for bed, but I had 4 vodkas, then got prodded into doing 2 Jaeger/Monster shots. Which were actually delicious, but the Monster part of the drink ended up keeping me awake hours after I got in to bed.

But again, I'm well off topic. I figure if I was their top tab for the evening, the owner could have at least come over to say hi and give a dessert or something. Just as a courtesy, especially to be thankful and appreciative in this economy.

    Just sayin'.

Avg burger is 10.00, fries 4.00 app 8.00= 22.00. 4 vodkas probably 36.00, 2 shots tax and tip easily 100.00 pp.
  • What is a jaeger monster and can we make Mougar do them please?

I was assuming $12 for burger plus fries and a shared app. Still sounds like a lot.

But ok, the owner, while kind of hot, and pretty anal (thank goodness) about cleanliness, is often drunk himself and tends to black out late night. Just sayin'.
  • It's a shot of Jaeger, dropped inside a glass of Monster energy drink. Dangerous and delicious.

    Late night = 8PM??
  • ^your first mistake was walking it to Flipsters. It can only go downhill from there!
  • It's only a few steps uphill to home....how bad could it be? :puker:
  • RIP the Maple Manhattan at Tempo. it would wipe the floor with anything recommended here. :)

I second the recommendation for "anything" at Weather Up or the Clover Club for out-of-Slope drinks (and Clover Club makes the second best bread pudding I've ever had.)

While it might sound like I'm on their payroll today, I love the Kings County Manhattan at Bussaco. Anything at James or the Vanderbilt (again, not PS) is fantastic. anything with the jalapeno-infused vodka at Bogota, or any of their mojitos.
  • Weather Up Old Fashioned. A knock out.

If you liked the maple manhattan at Tempo, ask James at Weather Up to make you a maple daquiri. It's quite good. Or I bet he could figure out a way to make a maple manhattan for you.
  • my recommendation for Dutch Kills still stands

    it's in LIC (27-24 Jackson Ave) http://www.dutchkillsbar.com/

the 1st time you see them make a proper drink (from seemingly hundreds of different liquor and mixer bottles), chop a huge block of ice down to a cube perfectly sized for your glass, and then taste the result, you'll be sold... did i mention they use metal stirrers and have sawdust on the floor for that extra old timey feeling?

my wife thanks you for that tip. :)
  • Subject: best local cocktail

the pomegranate mojito is the BEST! With real pomegranate seeds, POM juice, fresh cut mint, rum and limes. They have it at Melt -bergen street. The drinks are made with fresh fruit. They also have the dark and stormy. I haven't tried that one yet, maybe next time.
