Election Results — Brooklynian

Election Results

Who won the city council seat for District 36 and why on earth can't I find this information anywhere?

I assume Vann kept the seat, but I'd like to see the breakdown of votes.

    Vann did retain his seat. Why is this the only place I could find results, though? what's going on?

    Try News 12 Brooklyn -- apparently you have to now log in, and I don't have those numbers here at work.
  • In front of my door on Election Day morning were two free copies of a "Special Edition" newspaper. (8pp., 4 color)

    @Masthead = The Epoch Times.
    @Headline = NYC Election Infiltrated by the Chinese Communist Party
    @Subhead = Comptroller Candidate John Liu and the Chinese Communist Party
    @Inside Heads
    = The United Front and John Liu's Connections
    = Omissions, Inconsistencies Found in John Liu's Campaign Finance Disclosures
    = Darling of the CCP-Controlled Media
    = China Subverting Democracy and Rights Abroad
    = Comptroller Candidate Liu's Shady Aides and Associates
    = Liu Silent on Hate Crimes in His District

    The Epoch Times is "privately held" according to their own website. That's all they say. Wikipedia says the owner has something to do with Falun Gong.

    I wonder a) How did Liu get on the wrong side of the publisher of this paper? b) Did this influence anyone's vote? c) How many copies of this were distributed? Was it city-wide?
  • Thanks for the links. As of this morning NY1 hadn't listed the results for the 36th District and none of the candidate's websites had been updated. They must have just been exceptionally slow in counting the votes?
  • While Mark Griffith finished behind perennial incumbent Al Vann, it was close. 29% to 22%. Mark is considering running on the Working Family Party line which endorsed him. Email him and let him know you want to see him run. Vann got less than 30% of the vote, which means 70% of the voters voted against him. If just half of those voters switched to Mark, he'd be a winner.
    Give Mark your input at:

    I've always thought Epoch Times was a very sophisticated version of the Anti-Communist movement. This edition makes them seem not so sophisticated. I know lots of strident anti-Communists, and they can be pretty rigid in their thinking, and, just guessing, that's how Liu got on the wrong side of the publisher.

    By the "CCP-Controlled Media," I wonder if they mean the NY Times.

    I did talk to a Park Slope voter who took this seriously, and I have a Republican friend who took this really seriously. But I doubt it swayed many votes. Somehow, I don't think many Democratic primary voters stay up at night worrying about the Communists taking over their party. Oh, and that same Republican friend is also worried about Obama's Death Panels.
