Free Workshop: How to Talk to Your Kids About Math!

If there is any subject that exasperates parents the most, it is mathematics.
Sure, we all know how to read to our children, help them with their writing and
drill them in spelling words, but discussing mathematics with your children can
be a very frustrating endeavor. One of the reasons is that we grew up learning
math in a different way, but there are other reasons as well. In our first
session, we'll discuss general issues about school mathematics, and what the
current trends in math education looks like, and why your child is learning it
the way he/she is.

The convener, Robert M Berkman, has taught mathematics in private and public
schools in New York City for 25 years. He is currently director of Better Living
Through Mathematics, a start-up soon-to-be non-profit which provides
professional development to teachers of mathematics, as well as designs and
operates children's programs.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 14th at The Brooklyn Creative
League, 540 President Street, between 3rd & 4th Avenue, from 7 - 8 pm. $5
materials fee. Email r@... for more information. Suitable for parents of
school-aged children (including pre-school.)
