A Conversation with Tom Hayden
TOM HAYDEN TO SPEAK IN BROOKLYN ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2nd
A Conversation On Endless War - Iraq, Afghanistan,, Pakistan
Tom Hayden, a life-long activist for peace and social justice will be the guest of Brooklyn For Peace at a public meeting to be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 7:30 pm. The event is being held at the Park Slope United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Sixth Avenue and 8th Street. The church’s Social Action Committee is a co-sponsor of the meeting. A reception will be held after the event. Admission is free, donations gratefully accepted.
With recent polls showing 57% of the American public opposed to the war in Afghanistan, questions and doubts are being raised about Administration proposals to expand the conflict by sending more U.S. troops there without any clear strategy for bringing it to an early end. Many have raised the specter of the Vietnam war and believe that escalation will lead to a similar morass.
Tom Hayden has been a leading voice for ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, closing sweatshops, saving the environment and reforming politics through greater citizen participation. From his founding of Students For A Democratic Society (SDS) to his years as a California State Senator, Hayden has been a champion of peace and social justice and has authored numerous books.
