mosquitoes, abnormal amount in apartment and perhaps park
anybody else notice the huge swarm of mosquitoes (we think, some nasty little buggers anyway) overrunning prospect park about two weeks ago?
and related: does anybody else in crown heights have a large mosquito population currently dining on you in your apartment, like we do? our windows abut the back garden, which is an overgrown jungle, which could explain things. but it's awful late in the season -- it's in fact now autumn -- for mosquitoes, isn't it? perhaps the downpours in june led to this late hatch or? i dunno, not a scientist. just curious. it's not like we have a lot, nor any, really, standing water in our apartment.
anyone else have any of these experiences. or any answers?
thx

do you have a window-unit AC? they can get in that way and sometimes will breed in the drip tray. that would be my first guess for you apartment infestation, assuming screens are all intact.

I am in Prospect Heights, and yes, mosquitoes have become a problem in my apartment only within the last two weeks or so. Another Prospect Heights friend is having the same problem. A similar thing (quite a bit worse, actually) happened back in 2006 when I lived in one of the old Jewish Hospital buildings--you can search for the long thread that existed about it back then. I don't know what the explanation is, but late-season mosquitoes just seem to be a thing around here.

yes... not so bad, but one year it lasted well into december.

Oh god, I bet that's how they're getting in my place. I've been covered in Mosquito bites the past month (so much that I briefly suspected bedbugs) and couldn't figure out where they were coming from since all of our windows are screened. -
we have them all over our apartment just within the last 2 weeks too!!! what the heck is going on? we don't have A/C, so that's not the issue. boo.

Crown Heights here and YES ... within the past couple of weeks, we were getting bit up by mosquitoes! Seems to have gotten better in the past couple of days though.

Here is secret video footage of them perfecting mind conrtol over insects. This technology, through the use of quantum fisiks and nano nano teck has been Honey I shrunkded to a minute scale and implanted into the mesqitos. They are secret hi-teck gubbermint operatives sent to dispense the swine upon us all. (lmao for you)

While its diminished since the cold snap, I was having terrible mosquito probs for days in my apt, which is totally screened off. I suspect they were getting in the front door. One of the things I've noticed about mosquitoes is that they are hard to find/catch? They seem quieter and more 'stealthy' or something.

thanks for all the commiserating info; feels better for the shared experience. i'd love to hear from experts what causes such spikes in bug activity. anyway, our situation has calmed down thankfully too, although my girlfriend battled a solitary mosquito last night in addition to my (alleged) snoring.

Subject: mosquitoes
I got two bites on either knee last night. How do they get past the screen?? I've decided that female mosquitoes have evolved in order to hurl their eggs through the window the screen so they hatch inside the apt. The only logical explanation.
