rescued kitten

Hi all.

I live on Lincoln Place where there are usually a family or two of new kittens each year. People in the area look out for the ferals (in particular, a woman who spays every cat she can catch)... but every now and then one gets taken inside.

In this case, a recent family of 3 (mother and two 6- to 8-week kittens) has been split up somehow, and on this cold morning, I found only one kitten crouching by the wall. She was surprisingly docile and accepted the warmth I offered her by rolling her up in my sweater. Worried about her sibling, I didn't want to bring her in, but she looked weak and in need of some warmth. I brought her in, put her in a box with an old towel and heating pad, and gave her a meal...

She has spent the whole day appreciating me with purrs and glances. She lets me rub her all over (offering up her belly!) and she is not upsetting my other cats. I think she's special!!! I have brought in 2 ferals before and none adapted this quickly, so we wonder if she's not officially feral but that her family was dumped.

In anycase, I'm looking for a permanent home for her. I have NOT had time to take her to vet yet to assess her health, so if anyone is interested in helping with that, that would also be appreciated. For now she's warm and nourished.

She's jet black with only the smallest DOT of white on her sternum. And her eyes are pretty crusty, one is opaque... so she does need some care.

thanks in advance.

  • Update on kitten. It's a boy! I went and spent a good deal at the Vet to first check for feline leukemia (negative!) and second seek the care he needed. He was so dehydrated and malnourished the vet said he was close to organ failure. She sent us home with subcutaneous fluids, a dewormer, two antibiotics (one antibiotic for the eyes which have had an infection causing the opacity in one... the other eye is fine), and some special food for "weak & recovering cats". He's since polished off two cans of the stuff, recovered fully from his cold (in 24 hours!), is exploring the house, and has used his little litter box 4-5 times today (the first in his life!... took some pointing him in the right direction, and scratching with him in the litter to show him what to do, but he got the knack and is going on his own now). He's really a remarkable cat.

If anyone is interested in adopting him, he's ready for a new home and does not need a vet visit until you want to get him shots.

anyone in PH want to adopt a sweet purring machine?
  • so adorable! that's a belly that needs kissing :-)

    Good work, kellyjelly
  • aaaahhh!!! he looks just like my behbeh! unfortunately, my behbeh hates kitties. she has decided that she is the only cat in the world, and anything that challenges that view will be met with bloodshed. have you had any luck finding this one a home?
  • Hi. Thanks for asking. Harry was re-homed yesterday. I know he's in a good place, but I cried a lot to see him go. He's a really special cat and we really bonded... but true to Harry's character, he's already snuggling up with his new family.
  • Yay, Harry! Thanks for the update...I love a happy ending. I fostered 2 baby kittens and was sad to see them go, but I know they went to a good home. Maybe Harry's new family will keep you updated and you can stay as his Auntie KellyJelly
  • Thanks Flexichick, I will get updates as I'm sure to run into the family in the 'hood. They live only 3 blocks away. I'll also get them through the friend who feeds the feral cats on my blockl; turns out she knew the woman who called about, and ulimately adopted Harry. So it was an obvious decision, in such a small circle. I'm happy to let him lead his new life, though, without too much awareness of it... I have three beautiful girl kitties here who need and get plenty of love :)
