Remember when your favorite weekly radio show would beckon you with high drama and cheesy suspense, keeping you on the edge of your living room seat with the echo-ey footsteps of reverb and a reassuring deep-vowel announcer? We don’t either. That’s why Private Ear Audio Theatre is giving us the chance to recreate the romantic past of Foley artists and lonely detectives with their second season of The Private Ear Radio Hour at the Brooklyn Lyceum.
Private Ear Audio Theatre (PEAT) presents live performances of classic and original works of radio drama with classic comedic panache. Every month beginning Sunday October 11th, PEAT will perform an hour of original and revived radio drama that will remind us of Old Time Radio with the vibrancy and energy of today. The productions use the power of imagination to fulfill the Theatre of the Mind, bringing the style of the Golden Age of Radio to a modern era audience's sensibilities, sure to peal you into laughter the more dramatic it gets. PEAT is comprised of an extremely talented ensemble cast, who started acting together and formed PEAT when they were undergrads at Sarah Lawrence College. Foley Artist Ien Denio brings his suitcase of sound to wow the audience with live audio effects, masterfully crafted and executed using common household tools and props. Composer/Conductor Nehemiah Luckett creates original and thematic scores played by the ever growing Private Ear Orchestra. The PEAT writing team fuses together their creative minds to bring you original series such as The Smoker, Ask an Alchemist, The Witching Half-Hour, and Solved in Sixty Seconds.
OCTOBER 11 Show: PEAT presents the first show of our second season featuring the debut of the shows Jack Slone C.P.A. and Guess That Sound, and returning shows The Witching Half-Hour and the 1st part of a 2-part origins episode of The Smoker. For more info and details see www.privateear.org.
The Brooklyn Lyceum, known formerly as NYC Public Bath No. 7, is a performing arts and cultural center in Park Slope. Originally opened in 1910 as an indoor bathing facility, it once housed the largest indoor public pool in the country. Reopened in 1994 as the Brooklyn Lyceum, the old bathhouse now plays host to a range of performance events, festivals and cultural activities. Lyceum features two sets of live jazz every Wednesday and Sunday evening. Its café is open to the public daily and offers free wireless access.
