Houseware Donation Pick-Up
Having recently gotten hitched, I find myself with some old plates, pans, utensils, etc. that have been replaced by wedding presents. Does anyone know of a charity/service that will pick up my old things? I don't have a car, and I certainly don't want to haul the items a box at a time somewhere.
Thanks,
Anthony

Freecycle.com? Curb alert on craigslist?
-
we had the same problem 3 months ago. we curb alerted on craigslist and absolutely everything went. if you really want charity, if you have furniture, a lot of places will pick up - but probably not for just pots and pans and stuff.
-
Salvation Army will pick up if you have a sizable amount of stuff. You should go through your closets and see if you can get together a few bags of clothes to donate also.

If you have a ricecooker, I want

Sorry, but no ricecooker.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll take a picture of all our stuff when we get it together and send to the Salvation Army to see if that qualifies for a pick up.
If not, I guess I'll get a Zipcar in a week or two to get it out of my apartment. -
If you don't need the tax donation, putting a box out with FREE on it works pretty well when the weather is good. I get a fair amount of foot traffic on my block tho.
The Salvation Army has terrible politics (at least from where I'm sitting) so I donate to Housing Works when possible, and Goodwill and just about anybody else. Usually, I just put out a box on the sidewalk.

Anybody know organizations that help people outfit apartments, either coming out of a fire, the shelter system, or recent immigrants? My mom (out of state) works with a group like this putting together boxes for family of four, family of six, whatever. It's a nice program... -
^^ love Housing Works. You have to have a substantial amount of stuff - in good condition - for them to come pick up, but you can always talk to someone there to see if what you have will work for them. They are a fantastic charity.

My roommate reminded me that there is a donation box in the home depot parking lot.not sure if it's just clothes though.

I agree about Housing Works (they are the only charity I donate to these days)
Here is a link to all the different orgs that you can donate stuff to in NYC:
