Just got an email that Black Horse Pub will open this Thursday the 22nd.
I believe it starts at 7:00 -- Finally. I'm so happy for this guy, really.
Okay all you pub lovers, come out and support this place. After waiting
all this time he really deserves a warm and big welcome. See ya there.

Sure, if I can find the Black Horse Pub. Where is "there"?
  • Location: 16th Street and Fifth Avenue. Diagonally across from
    Buttermilk.
  • Yarp, been waiting for this one as well.
Now, i need to find an excuse to "work from home" on friday.
  • Woot! It's true! 7pm thursday! I will be the hot one dancing on the bar.

    Nice! Thanks for the location!
  • Took forever to open!
  • Yay! I hope they ban babies and toddlers :-)

    (and have food!)

Yay! I hope they have ample parking for double strollers!

Ha! Don't blame me when your kids' first words are "where the fuck is my beer?" and "daddy beats me when nobody is looking"
  • can't swear to this, but I believe I noticed an area for stroller parking inside -- conveniently located mere steps from the Toddlers Bar. On a high note, if any of us are too inebriated to get home on our own accord
I think they will offer stroller service for a ride home. Some of these strollers are the size of SUV's and
come with 4 wheel drive. See you there.
  • So... any reports from the opening? I planned to go, but got held over at work. The manfriend and some pals, however, went and were pretty disappointed. It felt more clubby than pubby, and apparently the bartenders (owners?) were blatantly favoring their friends over other customers, giving them priority for service and drink tickets. Apparently they weren't the only ones who thought so -- when I finally met up with them at Ellis afterward, other people there had similar complaints. One guy (that I didn't know) was saying that he had stopped in to talk to them several times over the course of their construction, but when he went in last night, they blew him off -- not that they had to be BFFs, but he felt that they were somewhat rude about it.

I haven't been there yet, but I'm curious what other people's impressions were... I want to like this place. I like the idea a lot, and I'm hoping that it turns out to be a good addition to the neighborhood.
  • I don't think we can judge a place based on opening night. It was packed for sure. The games were on and
people were watching and music was playing. Sadly, some of the distraction on the part of the
owner and his wife might be due to the fact that he just lost his sister and he's going to have to go back home for this. I felt terrible for him, he finally gets to open and has to deal with the loss of his sister. I have
been seeing and speaking to him just about everyday as I live down the block he apologized
for not having been able to talk with me the day before because of his loss. I imagine he is in
the middle of having to make arrangements and such.
I hope all will give the place a chance they seem like really nice people. I looked for
Brooklynians but was unable to find any I didn't see anyone dance on the bar top either.
I noticed a few old timer Brooklyn people there, upset at
not having been bought back. I told them many new bars in our area don't do this however, the owner says he will do buy backs and I thought that was good news. As for last night, I wonder with all the crowds
if they even realized or could keep up. I think time will tell-- but I'll go back again because I like them
and I believe they will be people friendly across the board.
I had a decent time, met a few nice friendly people and chatted. It was very crowded and a bit crazy
as often events like this can be.
  • Reggi - maybe you should tell him about this thread/board and he'll get a sense of what's working and what's not (of course Brooklynian is a tiny slice of the real world, but what else should really matter other than what WE think? ;-) )
  • Flexi I told him about the boards. He claims to be a bit of a luddite when it comes to computers.
Perhaps this is something his lovely wife can look into.
Of course all that really matters, is what we think! THAT and plenty of room for strollers
    and toddlers!
  • I love Black Horse! Even though I stayed out too late and am now extremely hungover at work, had great night!! Rob, Brian and Adam the beer buyer who drinks mgd (ha!) Were awesome. Good drinks, buybacks, friendly, hotties, win. Brian said food in two weeks after he deals with the funeral.
  • And the music was fun- music from napoleon dynamite, the cure, different. But kinda loud. And it's really dark in there.
  • scarlett wrote: ... and Adam the beer buyer who drinks mgd (ha!)
This is Dr. Adam from Urban Optical!
  • Wait...Adam the chatty/scatterbrained doctor. Don't get me wrong...he's a nice guy but when I see him I'm always amazed that he gets anything done.
  • Well... it did take forever to open! :P jk... Yeah, he bought us a round, as I am a patient. Nice place. I'm an Anglophile, so I think, plus with the Ashcroft mural + others, I might be here often.
  • Was there again last night and Adam and Rob remembered us and bought us drinks and shots.
  • why is Adam there all the time? because he lives close or is he invested some how?
  • Flexichick wrote: why is Adam there all the time? because he lives close or is he invested some how?
    part owner
  • ^ah, I didn't know that. I saw him just the other day, but only for a minute. Will have to go in and say hi
  • aw, Adam is a great guy. Scattered for sure but very sweet.
  • Indeed, wasn't expecting to see him there, but right away he insisted he buy us a drink... I didn't know Delirium was $8, sorry! I'm glad he's part-owner. Just another reason to keep going back!
