dude! I can now be productive at work! I spent way too much time the last few days trying to find alternate means of entertainment.
  • Brooklynian: the Brooklynites board? mmmkay...glad to see it all back up regardless... :D
  • Yes... I knew you would hate it. :)

I was expecting one of these

While I agree that people from Brooklyn are supposed to be called Brooklynites, there may be some precedent for the use of the term "Brooklynian" as an adjective (at least on the Internet):

    http://www.vocaboly.com/forums/ftopic3891.html

The only Internet links that use "Brooklynian" as a name for someone from Brooklyn are from a Mississipian and a Texan (and I certainly hope we don't take our cues from them about what to call ourselves).

Oh, and this guy has the myspace URL for Brooklynian:
    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=21621644

So in summary, Brooklynian- adjective, yes; noun, no.
  • I agree, noun = good, adjective = not so good.
Was the name itself ever up for discussion on the boards?
Why not canvas opinions, make it a contest, or take a vote?

    brooklynforums.com is not taken, or

    bknyforums.com

    brooklynpost.com

    brooklynboards.com

    brooklynites.com

    brooklynvoices.com

    Yes. http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2724
There were some suggestions but a lot were already taken. The ones NOT taken included brooklynfix.com, dailycrooklyn.com, brooklynarea.com, brooklyndistricts.com, brooklynlocality.com, and AmIBrooklynOrNot.com (haha).
Why not canvas opinions, make it a contest, or take a vote?
    We could do that.
    brooklynforums.com is not taken
But brooklynforum.com is taken. Too confusing, potentially, isn't it?
    bknyforums.com
    Eh...
    brooklynpost.com
    Taken.
    brooklynboards.com
    Taken.
    brooklynites.com
    Taken.
    brooklynvoices.com
    Ugh. Too touchy feely.
    theviewfrombrooklyn.com
    Ugh. Too "Star Jones".

I think I said the opposite. Was this mistyped?
  • BTW - there really is no methadone equivalent for withdrawal from these boards.

It was excrutiatingly painful. Like fire ants crawling up my pant leg and nibbling on my testicles.

But with the help of my wife, co-workers, and alternative non-religious, faithless, healer/mentor, I made it through. I can't thank them enough.

Please, please, tell me it won't happen again!
  • this morning at prospect park offleash hour
i overheard a fellow poster, talking to someone else
about the dailyheights board, and i shouted out the new name
    b r o o k l y n i a n.com

    sadness.
the name brooklynian is so gay
    as i said "b r o o k l y n i a n "
-- i felt an overwhelming urge to stick my tongue up some guy's brown eye

    so gay
by gay i mean 'stick my tongue up some guy's brown eye' gay

    please keep it daily heights
    please

    don't make me gay
  • before any rumors get started, let it be known that i was gay WAY before the name change.

but i'll let you know if it makes me start wanting to sleep with men.
  • I'm not sure I understand the change, either. Bay Ridge wants a message board? Let 'em get off their hairy arses and start one, or do what I did: find one that already exists and join it. Same goes for Williamsturd and any other neighborhood.

Why we piggybackin' these fools on our cool, yo?

Maybe so the site can make more money. The more people that click the ads the more money the website makes. If you open the site to the rest of Brooklyn maybe it will make more cash. Especially considering the declining popularity of these boards in the last 3 months.

  • The popularity of this board is higher than ever, regardless of whether you count page views or visitors. Look at the stats for March. The reason why April is so low is that we are only halfway through the month.
