fire on franklin — Brooklynian

fire on franklin

I just ran down Franklin and it was packed with fire engines and ladder trucks. The whole third (top floor) of 787 Franklin (between Lincoln and St. John's) was gutted, but the firefighters I talked to said everyone made it out unharmed. I feel terrible for whoever lost their place.

  • Thanks for posting this -- I used to live next door to that building. Apartment fires scare me so much and can spread so easily -- glad everyone got out safely and that it didn't spread down the block.

When it gets cold and you smell kerosene, call 311. Lots of people use these heaters to save money. None of the buildings have sprinklers and the condition of interior smoke detectors is a non issue for most people. Cheap hand held fire ext under your kitchen sink can avoid a bunch of these problems,
  • it happened super-fast-- got out of the train, no fire. went into the bodega on franklin and EP and 90 seconds later-- fire. Glad everyone's ok. was quite a scene last nite.
