Subject: CBID Resolution
Despite strong arm tactics by some of Assemblyman Brennan's staffers, who tried literally to move people out of the room to break a quorum vote, this resolution, in opposition, was passed by about 20-4:

Who is Assemblyman Brennan?
And, so they voted against supporting the Ratner plan?
Who are the CBID? And what power do they have?
Thanks

the CBID is a political club started in 1968 by then Assemblyman Joe Ferris. For a long time they were a truly independent reformed minded political club, staunchly fighting political corruption. Over recent years they have become less progressive and less reform minded.
It is the home club to Assemblyman Brennan who mainly represents Park Slope. It is also the home club to other Ratner supporters DeBlasio, Yassky and Marty Markowitz. By voting to oppose Ratner's project, they bucked the tide of the politicians they have endorsed.
What do they do? They mainly endorse candidates and then work to elect them.
Here is their "Who We Are" from their website:
As a neighborhood Democratic Club, CBID has fought for reform and progressive causes since its founding in 1968 by reform Democrats, and anti-war and neighborhood activists. Based in Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, and Kensington, we have been instrumental in the election of many public officials. For a recent restatement of our purpose, you may read the State of the Club message by our president David Wynyard.
Staunchly opposed to political corruption, and committed to JUDICIAL REFORM, we are proud of our independence and progressive politics. -
So assemblyman Brennan's people tried to remove people to stop the vote, it sounds like the opposite of what the group is supposed to fight ("oppose political corruption")? Not sure if I understand.
-
brennan's chief of staff tried to break quorum. the large majority of the group voted anyway, as he didn't get away with it.
the point is the membership is against the Ratner project, while the club's politicians are for it .
Howdy, Stranger!
