Looking for a Vet Familiar with Greyhounds

My husband and I just brought home a retired racing greyhound, and we’re looking for a vet in or around PLG or Park Slope that is familiar with this dog breed. Please advise if you have or have had a greyhound and can recommend a particular vet. Thanks!

  • The prospect park animal clinic rocks. I don't know if they treat greyhounds per se, but if you check yelp and other review sites, they are a very good clinic. I also vouch for them.
  • We take Chester, our retired racer, to the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital and have had great experiences there. Dr. Nunemacher is great, and while she's not a greyhound specialist, she clearly took an interest in him and responded well to all of our concerns. https://bayridgeanimalhospital.net/
And congrats on getting a greyhound! I can't imagine having any other breed and am constantly fighting the urge to get another.
  • I second PPAC as having good vets. I think they've been very conservative with vaccines and don't seem to push treatments, pills, shots, etc. I'm guessing with the number of GH's in the area, they are familiar but I doubt specialists.

I've also been to Pet Haven on McDonald in I guess PLG. That was for a gecko, but all of the staff and care was really great there. I know some dog owners that go there and love the vets and staff, as well. Worth calling and asking. Oh, and they have a parking lot for those with vehicles.
  • Thanks everyone!
  • I've never had a greyhound myself, but I've walked several in my professional capacity. And am aware of some of their unique needs. One of my clients is a vet at Hope Clinic who himself has a greyhound, so I should think he'd be worth checking out.

    PM me for his name.
