Recommended local tax accountant?

I'd like to get a local tax accountant. I've been going to a guy in Queens but hes put his prices up considerably making the long journey less worthwhile.
What I have liked about his service is that I can go to his office with my ( minimal ) paperwork and he files all my stuff on line on the spot. I don't need to fill any forms in or spend hours in lines at the post office. Done!
If I can find a reasonably priced, recommended service like that locally it would save me quite trek.
Thanks

  • if all he does is enter your stuff online on the spot, why don't you just do it yourself using tax software? it sounds like you have a really easy return
  • Possibly but I'm trying to avoid filling in forms and I've found it useful to get advice from a real person in the past.
  • Joe Collocino on 7th Ave. in Park Slope.
  • I use a guy in Queens also, so I know not "local" as in PS, but he's amazing. Really great guy, reasonably priced, and spends a good amount of time. PM me if you are interested.
  • Dennis Carbone
    9th street between 5th and 6th ave
We have used him and his son Adam for many years
  • never tried one myself but planning on it this year. Other than the above and future recs, what are average price ranges I should look out for
  • it was crazy... the difference between TurboTax (online) and our tax accountant doing them was like $700 (in our favor). Granted, our taxes are crazy (with independent contractor, student loans, 10 million jobs, etc.), but still, I resolved to never do it on my own again.

Regarding cost, I think it's very hard to find out simply because it all depends on what they file. I think for each form they file, they charge a rate. That said, you could pay less for someone because that don't know they can file as many different deductions, but if you paid more for someone that did know, you pay more for the accountant but save money in the grand scheme of things. My long way of saying I think it's best to just go with someone who you trust and NOT do them yourself. My 2 cents.
  • Thanks all. I have made an appointment at Joe Colacino's. I saw some great reviews on line and and it looks like its going to be cheaper too. Thanks!
