Kosciuszko St. Buildings
The industrial space at 45 Kosciuszko St. between Spencer and Nostrand, Best Linen and Towel Supply, appears that it's being converted to residential spaces. They are extending the second story and adding on an additional floor (or maybe 2? I cannot remember). Any one have any idea what the story is behind the building? What the intended plan is?
Does anyone know anything about the condos that are almost done on Kosciuszko St. and Spencer next door to the new construction?
I am curious about new construction in the area, especially after I walk down Spencer Street and some of those buildings are shuttered.
Thanks

Here's a copy of the Work Permit. Shows 2 additional stories and the inclusion of more lots in the plan, and of course it's residential.

Here's the tax map showing all the included lots that will make up the entire building. A pretty good size building going all the way through to DeKalb.

Lot 89 is "45" -
Hey, modsquad, you rock. Thanks a lot for posting those! I really appreciate it.
Some of the building permits were too high and hard to read so I could not tell.
I have a question--What lots are going to make up the building? It is just Lot 89 or does it include more lots? It seems like it would extend to 87 and maybe 85 and back to 42 and 46-48. It looks like the area around 31-33 is the building that is close to completion. I know 55 is a residential senior center.
I need to walk around and look. I think Best goes through from Kosciuszko St. to DeKalb.
Oddly enough the mechanics that worked out of the place across from these buildings are gone and there are signs saying the space is available. They were there one day and gone the next. It was weird because they had been there for awhile. -
The permit that was pulled on the 45 Kosciuszko indicates that lots 40, 87, 86, and 85 will be included in the new building. However a permit has been pulled on the Best building, lot 42 for interior demo by the same architect and const. co. No doubt a terminal flaw in the building envelope will be discovered requiring the complete demolition at some point.
The clue to what this building(s) might be is a picture taken by the Google street view car of the front of the Best building.

I wouldn't be surprised if this new residential building is being built to accommodate the overflowing Hassidim population in Williamsburg and that Best warehouse becomes a big box temple like the new one over on Kent near the Navy Yard. Unlikely there will be any room left for goyem. I guess me and my sister wives are headed back to Utah! -
LOL. That made me laugh.
That green building does not look attached to Best from K-Street. I was not sure how it was going to work. I am going to have to go check it out.
Interesting thoughts. The almost constructed building at the corner on Spencer next to Best does not look like your typical Hassidim building, but you might be right.
I just noticed this weekend that the building diagonally across from Best now has work permits up. Google puts it at 62 K. I thought it was 70, but I may be remembering wrong. This is nice because it's been an abandoned weird area. I could not read all the permits, as they put them up so high. But I'll have to search and see what the plan is there. Now if they could do something about the abandoned, boarded up building at the corner of Nostrand. It has had scaffolding up for over 4 years.
The buildings were the mechanics were/across from Best and the other tall building is now also for sale. It makes sense. It's so close to the train, and it's a really underutilized street where a lot of new construction has been going on.
Thanks, modsquad, for all of your info. I appreciate it. Building here is so convoluted sometimes, and I cannot make heads or tails.
