Fun New Game I inventimacated! — Brooklynian

Fun New Game I inventimacated!

This a dailyheights.co.... er... brooklynian.com exclusive!

It's strange! It's savage! It's cruel!

It's called... Gentriconfrontation (tm) !!!

Here's how you play: all you have to do is see how quickly you can turn any topic into an "anti-gentrification" rant!

Example:

Suppose a person posts on where the best place to buy beer is. You could respond sensibly ("The Met on Vanderbilt has really improved it's selection"), or you could reply humorously ("I really like the beer at Jackie's 5th Amendment"). These would be good replies... but if you want to win Gentrificonfrontation (tm), you'd have to reply like this:

"Back in the day you could only get 40's of OE there, too bad all the yuppies moved in".

YOU'VE BEEN GENTRICONFRONTED!!

DO NOT PASS SODA, DO NOT COLLECT YOU CRACK VIALS!!!

C'mon everybody! It's as fun as kids in bars, it's as free as apartments on
Crazy Lane, and it's easier than a boycott!!

*legalese voice over*

my response, of course, is brought to you by woodchuck dark & dry cider from the bodega at st. johns and washington: a yuppie beverage from a bodega technically in CH.

Gentriconfrontation (tm) is not yet available for play in neighborhoods outside of Prospect Heights, and its satellite colony, Park Slope.

but after purchase, I immediately crossed BACK into PH fully intending to consume the offending beverage in my PH apartment. doesn't that count for ANYTHING?
  • technically, that makes you a colonizer. leaving home, stripping the resources of another, less economically powerful place, and bringing them back with you....

Only if you got asked by a man of uncertain age and ethnic origin to take a walk in the park... otherwise...

    WAH Wah wahhh...

    LOCK YOU CAPS!!
  • Wow, everyone is so guilt ridden. I remember when this neigborhood used to be proud.

I hear ya. Funny thing, I was never quite aware of how divided the neighborhood was before I started posting here. There I was, paying rent to a man of another race, a man who is possibly the kindest person I have ever met (excepting my own pop and ma), who owns several buildings on my block and a few others, having a good time with my housemates, who are also differently raced than me, not sticking my nose where it didn't belong, thinking I had found the ideal place to live... but nothing lasts forever, I guess.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my invented game. It was designed to make fun of the recent trend on these boards to turn every topic into a "us versus them" thing. It was poking fun at both sides, the "gentrification happens" crowd, and the "what did you expect when you moved here" crowd, too, as well as my own position on issues like the Brooklyn Brew boycott.

In other words, it was a post designed to make fun of us, and by "us" I mean dailyheights regular posters.

Oh well, at least alafairnadia liked it.

    Again, apologies.
  • Are you kidding Pen? This is hilarious!

If you were a Brooklynian, born and raised, you wouldn't have backed down so easily...
  • Please, don't apologize for humor! If not for the flashes of wit, some of the them-vs-whomever threads you lampoon would be truly unbearable.
  • please, yes. i like the game. it's a funny game. i was just trying to play, too....
  • funniest game ever!

    Uh oh...

    WAH Wah wahhhh.....

    I just got GENTRICONFRONTED!!

But you're right, nybt, if I truly felt this was "my" home, I wouldn't have backed down so easily. In another five years I'll be meaner.
  • Oh, I was just playing the game. I think I won though because I got the longest response.
  • Isa wrote: Oh, I was just playing the game. I think I won though because I got the longest response.
    Subtle! Isa wins.
  • hahahah this is some funny shit.
  • This needed to be done...bravo, and here's not to taking things so seriously, eh?
  • If you have to explain or defend humor - then it isn't!

I tried playing gentriconfrontation in PS but it didn't work 'cause PS was gentrified so long ago that nobody understood what I was talking about. Think it only works in PH and others "communities" these days.
  • can we play this game in all the threads?
  • Play this game in all threads? Haven't we been playing this game all along? NICE POST, better observation.... keep it up... yuppy!

    LIBEL!
  • okay. I have a complaint about this game:

the word gentriconfrontation makes me think of that red hot chili peppers song that I don't even own - californication. so I've been humming this song I barely remember and then, suddenly, as the human brain is apt to do, I mash up gentriconfrontation and californication and don't come up with caliconfrontation. yes. I've been singing gentrifornication to myself all day and I just realized it. poor feeble brain. I blame the pegged pants from this morning.
  • That was enough to make me register. Very funny.
  • if all the white people moving to PH engage in gentrifornication and create enough offspring, then maybe in 20 years they won't be faced with gentriconfrontation.
  • heh. that comment is funny in juxtaposition with your signature line.

although it does make me think of the reagans in ways i'd prefer not to.
  • I've oftern thought that about Dick and Pat Nixon - as recently as yesterday. Do you thnk I should seek professional help?
  • :D:D:D he hehe! I loved yer post! People get too worked up about things on here, some good natured ribbing is well needed.

I mean sheeit, why does everybody gotta be hatin on strollers and slope heads? Is it that back in the day on the slope real muhfuckah had their strollers all pimped out with boomin systems, hundren spoke wheels and their babies were drinkin 40's? or is it just that they are hard to get arround on the sidewalk? or do some of yall just hate babies.
