Has your boyfriend or girlfriend ever given you a pet?

Hi there, I write for a local paper and I'm working on a story about getting pets as gifts. If your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse has ever given you a pet as a surprise gift, and for whatever reason you weren't quite ready to raise it (too busy, had allergies, didn't have enough money to cover vet bills, landlord didn't allow pets... or you just didn't want a pet), I'd like to hear your story.
