Ravel & Shostakovich program at the Brooklyn Conservatory

Faculty member Michael Rose will present a wonderful program featuring the music of Ravel and Shostakovich at the Brooklyn Conservatory, Saturday, February 13 at 8pm. Featuring Masha Lankovsky, violin, Emily Howard, soprano, Lawrence Zoering, cello and Chris Johnson, flute.

Mezzo Soprano Emily Howard performs a wide variety of music and theater in a wide variety of venues. She has sung opera roles such as Carmen, Azucena, and Amneris in various regional companies. She made her debut on the Metropolitan Opera roster in 2001 as Schwertleite in Die Walküre. She has sung the alto solos in The Messiah, Elijah, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass in which she made her Carnegie Hall debut with The New England Symphony. She has appeared as a solo recitalist in concert series including ones sponsored by Trinity Church, the Donnell Library, Brooklyn Conservatory, and the Shelter Island Friends of Music and as a guest soloist on the Washington Square Park Summer Concert Series
Masha Lankovsky (violin) has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a solo, chamber, and orchestral player. She has participated in international festivals including Britten Pears in England, Schleswig Holstein in Germany and the American Conservatoire at Fontainebleau in France. Based in New York, Masha Lankovsky is an active freelance musician and is a presently a member of East Coast Contemporary Ensemble and NeoLIT. In the spring of 2010 she will be featured as soloist in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Brooklyn Conservatory Orchestra.
Lawrence Zoernig (cello)has been principal 'cellist of many New York symphony and chamber orchestras, including New York Chamber Orchestra, Bachanalia and Opera Manhattan. Mr. Zoernig premièred Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concertino for 'Cello and String Orchestra at Trinity Church with the New York Scandia Symphony, for which he is also principal 'cellist.He has also recently performed the Cello Concerto by Johan Svendsen with the Scandia Symphony.
Michael Rose (piano)has performed extensively as a pianist, accompanying performances at many of the area’s most prestigious halls including Carnegie, Steinway, Trinity Church, Queens College, and Bard College, at auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber and Paul Simon, and with the Harlem Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera Company, OMNI Ensemble, and the jazz group NYAXE. Also a composer, his works have been performed by eighth blackbird, Richmond County Orchestra, Brooklyn Conservatory Classical Choir, Momenta String Quartet, Season String Quartet, Sounds New, Inoue Chamber Ensemble, and many others.
Christopher Johnson (flute) presently serves as Director of Music and Organist at The Riverside Church in Manhattan, Director of Music at The Interchurch Center and Artist-in-Residence at Union Theological Seminary. Following undergraduate studies at The Cleveland Institute of Music and Manhattan School of Music in flute and viola performance, he completed graduate studies at Yale University's Institute of Sacred Music in organ performance, where he studied with Thomas Murray. Also an avid pilot, Chris holds commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates.
