cousin john's bakery back open!

I have lived in the hood a long time. I raised my kids here and all their Birthday Cakes came from Cousin John. There were no other options back then.
I am happy they are back open and happening. -
YAY!!!!!!
Are their prices higher now? Either way, glad they are back -
I'm really glad to hear they're back. I've been going there forever...way back when the place that is now ozzies was still a drugstore ;-)
-
Ah, I remember that drugstore well..................
-
It does look great! When I first saw it was closed I feared the worst and then I was so relieved to see the sign that it was only closed for renovations. My personal favorite, the eclair is still an unbelievable $1.50 so maybe the prices did not go up!?
-
Does anyone know the secret to their waffles? They're amazing.

Uh, are there other options now? What are they? -
Well, for one, that is Ladybird, that wasn't here a billion years ago.
-
Haagen Daaz ice cream cakes were not available when my kids were young. Nor was the fancy little French pastry shop at 7th Avenue and 9th Street. Nor was there any fancy bakery on 8th Avenue. 5th Avenue was a shooting gallery... no bakeries at all, if I remember correctly.
I agree with LongTimeSloper... the options were very few and not very satisfactory. Other than Cousin John's, the only neighborhood bakeries were very tired (and not at all inspired) old Italian bakeries. -
The only other neighborhood bakery (aside from Cousin John's), I remember from back in the day (yes,I just used that phrase!) was the place on 7th Avenue and president Street (Regina, was it called somethign else before that?), and they were never good!
Now, we have the places that booklaw mentioned and even though I don't like it, that place on 5th Avenue, Tres poimmes is it? So, a lot more of a selection in baked goods to say the least.
Wait, wait, wait, I lie! There used to be a bakery on 7th Avenue near 5th or 6th Street that made great little Italian cookies and pastries, used to go there all the time, can't remember the name of it . It might have been where la Bruschetta is now, any other old timers know what I am talking about?
And, of course, way further up 7th Avenue where 4Play is now was Cuccio's (that was the name of it, right?) , they made excellent apple pie. -
I do remember Regina Bakery. It was pretty bad.
-
veets, do you remember the other place I mentioned? The one on 7th near 5th or 6th Street?
-
nope.. can't recall the name but I remember bakery at that location.
-
I can only think of Regina, too, but I'm not that big on bakeries.
-
RIP Uprising! I miss those shops!

this place has been gone a very long time Flexi, it might have been before your time. Shoot, it is driving me crazy now! I really liked that place -

How long are we talking? I've been here 13 years.....but again, I'm not that up on the bakeries. I'll eat baked stuff if it's in front of me, but my weaknesses are more of the cheese variety -
Regina was here 13 years ago. What about Lopez bakery? The origianl location? Wasn't that there a while? THAT was a great bakery. Used to regularly get hot loaves there.
-
Lopez original location was 5th ave and 8th street.
Those was glorious times.. fresh bread available at 2AM....they did not keep their doors closed when they baked all night.
I saw the babies grow up in the store.
Yes... Miss those days .
