Air Conditioner services?

A friend of mine told me about a company based in NJ that will come to your apartment, measure it, sell you air conditioner(s) appropriate for the space, install them and maintain them during the winter, service them if they break, etc. Is there something similar in Brooklyn? my AC dusted last year.

  • Arnica in Staten Island and Bay Ridge. They did my mom's house in the Slope and the owner told me they do window a/cs as well. They have good ratings with BBB as well as NYC Consumer Affairs.
  • oh awesome, thanks. I'll call them tomorrow. I'm predicting an unbearable summer and I want to pay through the nose to con edison to have an oasis of freezing-ass-cold in my apartment!

I wonder if they do window ACs that run on corn oil?

Let us know how it goes and how their prices are; I may want to call 'em about getting a new window unit for my living room.

  • FYI, I just called them up and they're coming on Thursday. They're going to come to my apartment and take a look at the old air conditioning unit that I suspect of being completely broken. They'll measure and then make a recommendation. The charge for the visit is $79 but they don't charge that if you end up using their service, which, knowing me, I'll do cause I'm ultra lazy and will be incapable of making another appointment.
  • okay, Arnica (718-720-6116) pretty much rocks. I've got two brand new air conditioners so my apartment won't be sweltering this summer. they delivered and installed them for free, took away my old busted air conditioner, and cleaned up after themselves. I got pricier air conditioners than some folks may want to buy - a Carrier unit in my bedroom and a Friedrich unit in my living room/kitchen/main room. but I own my place and wanted to get something that would last longer than my LG (which conked out halfway through last summer after only one previous summer of use). apparently, though, they have cheaper units if you're a renter or just don't want to drop that much on your credit card.

for the record, I don't work for Arnica. I just paid them a small fortune, in fact. but yay!
