The St George Tower Oral History Experiment is an online archive to gather all the details of this world renowned landmark.

People from 21 states and four countries have come together so far to share memories of one very special block in Brooklyn. What special memories do you have of the Hotel St George?
We've gotten quite a few newcomers recently through the Brooklynian, so I thought I would welcome you all personally and thank you for joining in this experiment.
The stories on this website are searchable, so if you have a particular interest you will find it quite easy to zero in on shared experiences. Then, write your own story, post it, and it will be added to this important new archive. Odds are, someone will remember other details to share. It's like sitting around after dinner "remembering when".
The photos section is also a great way to jog your memory. It has recently been reorganized to make it a lot easier to find what folks in the future may be researching. We already have hundreds of images and we have volunteers willing to help you scan and upload entire photo albums if you would be so kind as to offer them to this collection. When you subscribe to this yahoogroup just post an email saying you have photos to upload to the archive and you will be contacted privately to work out the arrangements.
Amongst the photos you will discover a great wealth of memorabilia including postcards, matchbooks, silverware (how'd THAT get in grandmother's suitcase?), and linens. Again, if you have any object you would like to add, someone will be happy to photograph it for you to upload, anonymously if you wish ; )
You should know that we have been featured in a New York Times Sunday City Section article and a BBC production. We have a member who is writing a novel with the St George as a backdrop, in particular the pool area. We have family members from both Captain William Tumbridge's family, who built the original hotel in 1885 and turned it into a grand dam hotel, and the family who bought the hotel from him in the 20s and built the Tower.
As you know, our purpose is to gather the oral histories of this very special landmark. More broadly, we are collecting photos, scrapbook items, and all manner of memorabilia. Kindly pour through the photo albums and scrapbooks of your elder relatives during Easter or Passover. Going visiting? Get them to tell stories! Then, write them down and post them here: StGeorgeTower.2ya.com.
Those who knew the hotel when the tower was built are slipping away. Help them to record their memories for all to enjoy, forever. Listen to them tell their stories, then come tell us!!!
So, what's YOUR story, anyway? What connects you to this one block in Brooklyn? We enjoy hearing even the subtlest, vaguest recollections, so you can't bore us with details.
We look forward to you joining us.
Best,
THE DRAGON SLAYER
