Quilombo, Tuesdays at Prospect Pond- new P.Heights Party
new weekly party in Prospect Heights (a neighborhood that could use more happenings, and this is a good start) called Quilombo, on Tuesdays. Inaugural party on 3/16/10 with Fuego Campo performing.
Little about the name- Quilombos were democratic settlements created by escaped slaves of mostly Brazilian descent, but is also a community of people of every color and ethnicity- sort of a sanctuary for the oppressed and seeking. Great metaphor for the neighborhood, which is still finding its identity and places that can still feel like home.
Quilombo
a quilombo is a settlement of the free, and a weekly happening of libation and live music in prospect heights. goers and comers of every history, shade and pride unite tuesdays this spring at Prospect Pond for sounds, slippery and potent cocktails, and flickering candlelight on brick walls.
our inaugural party will be held 3/16/10 at 7pm, and presided over by mixist nadine friedman; the phenomenal and lightening fingered Fuego Campo of Noble Society will provide a solo performance of flamenco and gypsy/jazz guitar from 9-11pm.
5-8 happy hour, with $1 off drinks; 2 for 1 draft pints $3; and $7 caipirinhas all night. party goes late. every tuesday, starting march 16th, 2010.
guitar sounds of the future inspired by the past will trickle onto the pavement in time for the daisies to come up from the cracks. mingle, sway, seduce at quilombo- where all are equal, where the people run the show...
take the 2/3 to eastern parkway and walk down 2 blocks to 769 washington ave @ st john's; easy walk from the 4/5 at franklin.
