Is there a Doctor/ clinic in Brooklyn open Sunday/today

edited November -1 in Park Slope
My Dr in Manhattan will be available on Tues only. My sore throat of Friday has worsened and I fear I may need a strep test/ antibiotic. So far my remedies of ibuprofen, lemons, garlic, cognac, apple cider vinegar carrot juice and other tricks are not working (not all at once of course) !

Can any recommend a Dr that would be open today Sunday and able to do a quick throat swab test and prescribe mediation if need.

Ideally in Park Slope Prospect Heights Cobble Hill B. Hill Brooklyn Heights area....

  • Dr. Steven Simons/Dr. Tarek Hagazi. They're out on Avenue M just off Ocean Parkway, but they are (a) GREAT (b) open Sundays. 718-339-5749.
  • There a walk in clinic that was located 200 Clinton St but they moved a few blocks away, still in that general area though, I think this is there number: (718) 797-5100

Someone on an older thread mentioned http://www.interfaithmedical.com/
  • Strep sucks. Halls sugar-free cough drops are my go to soother. I get strep a few times a year and have learned how to sleep with one of these tucked between my tongue and roof of my mouth to deal with the "feels like I swallowed broken glass" feeling.

At this point, by the time antibiotics would make a difference in symptoms, I'm pretty sure the pain portion would be over so why take antibiotics (which are best avoided unless absolutely necessary, imo)? I only took the ab's once, and that was at the insistence of coworkers in a tight space and I didn't get relief any sooner than usual, but was probably not contagious for as long as usual.
  • if you can't find anyone in the neighborhood, selected duane reade stores in manhattan have a walk-in clinic that's open sundays http://www.drwalkin.com/ -- not all of them are open sundays, so I'd call ahead. They take insurance or $.
  • unless you're worried about the exceptionally rare complication of rheumatic fever, strep will go away on its own in 3-5 days. antibiotics can knock out a day or two. since you're already at that mark, better to take motrin and rest.

('m not a doctor, btw, but you can google it)
  • Also, try black elderberry syrup until you can get meds, its been proven to have anti-viral and anti-bacterial results. You can get it at many drugstores around park slope.
  • I know there is a medical office open 7 days a week at 196a flatbush ave between Bergen and Dean. Tel number 718 789 5900. You might try them and see if they can accomodate you in the future. I think they are called sunrise medical group or something.
