Brooklyn Movie Premiere of Heart of Stone Fundraiser
Trilok PreSchool and Trilok Fusion Arts are proud to present the Brooklyn premiere of the award-winning documentary Heart of Stone. Based on a true story, Heart of Stone shows how disparate groups can join together to give their old communities something they have not had for generations - a future. Before 1960 Weequahic High School (WHS) in New Jersey was known as one of the top schools in America. By 2000 it was one of the most violent schools in the 12th most dangerous city in the country. The documentary portrays the school’s quest to return to its former glory.
The film has gained accolades worldwide. It was the Audience Award winner at the Sundance Film Festival. Variety called it “heartfelt. The New York Times marveled at the school “principal’s principles”, his realization that he can work with gang leaders to restore the school’s reputation.
Director Beth Toni Kruvant and Executive Producer Anand Kamalakar will be available for a Q&A session after the screening. The proceeds of the evening will be donated to Trilok Fusion Arts and Trilok PreSchool, a community not-for-profits arts and education company servicing the Brooklyn community since 1996.
