new vintage thrift store on 5th avenue
http://www.guvnorsnyc.com/
it's between berkeley and lincoln on 5th avenue in that space which has been empty for years and looked like a 1 story garage or something. the new space is really nice and big.

and that makes:
beacons closet
odd twin
yona lee vintage store
and now this new guvnor's all on 5th within a few blocks of each other.
all are unique from one another and seem to do really well. odd twin is recognized as one of the best vintage stores in the entire city and yona lee has some incredible women's stuff. beacons closet is the one everyone knows and is always packed, even in their new larger space on warren and 5th. -
It's not a new vintage store, it's the same one that's been there forever but only moved a door over. They just renovated that storage space and once done the old vintage shop moved over. They've been posting signs up about the change of location for months now.
Edit to add: the storage space wasn;t empty, it open every weekend and a guy sold socks, belts, purses and memorabilia. Once the space was in renovation he moved his stuff/shop to the front of the Mailboxes place, also just a few doors down. -
thanks mamacita. sounds about right.
but upon arriving, it definitely feels like a whole new place given what that space looked like before and the fact that the old store next door was crowded if it had more than 3 people inside. this "new" space is HUGE! the old place was called monkey whistles and motorbikes, yes?
and that text from above is from their website, so they look as though they're trying to start "new" judging by that first line....plus the new name and all. -
Yeah, it does sound like they are reinventing themselves. The second hand "pets" stuff cracked me up, but the DJ and on hand tailoring sound very interesting. I loved the old place so I know I'll love this place.

Nice! 5th avenue is getting better and better. 7th can have their Dunkin Donuts...I'd rather see more mom and pops on 5th
-
7th doesn't have a dunkin donuts to my knowledge. maybe you were just being sarcastic, but really all things considered 7th has very few chains compared to other nyc neighborhoods.
and some of my favorite things in the neighborhood are on 7th avenue...
beer table
oshima
olive vine
chiles and chocolate
cousin john's bakery
bagel hole
la taqueria
brook vin
barrio
tarzian kitchen store
park slope flea market
mango thai
d'vine taste
istanbul park (some of the best turkish food around)
and that new thistle hill tavern opening at 7th and 15th sounds like it's going to be amazing with an incredible chef from manhattan's inoteca.
that being said, 5th avenue rocks although my favorite stores (matter and 3R living) closed. -
speaking of dunkin donuts, i just saw on another thread that the only dunkin donuts in park slope (on flatbush and st. marks) was actually seized and has been shut down and emptied out. this must have happened very recently it sounds like...

There's also a Dunkin Donuts on the corner of 5th Avenue and 9th Street. -
oh yes, i forgot about that one. you're right!
haha, so i guess that doesn't help landlord's point much, huh?
-
Ha, guess not, sorry~ Still luv you, 5th Ave!

Will check it out, thanks. I Went to Odd Twin over the weekend. Really nice things and had a nice crowd which is always good to see in this economy.

Helps to know what you're talking about when you post. DD is on 5th and 9th. And DD serves a lot of peoples needs. Coffee is cheaper than most " Mom & Pops". There is room for everyone.
Howdy, Stranger!
