Internet Problems on 23rd St.

Hey guys,

Long-time reader - first-time post (yikes, that sounds dorky!!).

Anyway, I just wanted to see if any of you guys are seeing the same thing me and my neighbors are. My internet has been totally busted this week. It's kind of weird - like some pages load and some pages don't. Usually a refresh will get the ones that are busted to get going (although sometimes not all the way), but man, it's a huge pain in the ass!

Anyone else seeing this? I know at least one other person on 23rd who's seeing it, and Time Warner is being totally lame about it. The local people refused to admit anything was going on, and the national people gave us a real vague "yeah, there's some kind of work going on.... but uhh.... not sure when that's gonna be done...."

Sometimes I feel like turning down the lights and listening to some Marvin Gaye. I'm just frustrated.

  • We're on 34th and experiencing horrible TW service too. It's been going on for a couple of weeks. The service is intermittent. The tv works somewhat with occasional pixelization. The internet and phone go up and down--more down than up. We' basically haven't had service in two weeks.

We've have sent two service technicians out (after many loud complaints) and these techs have replaced splitters, checked the modem, tightened cables, looked at the cables outside.... They can't find anything. They get it working, leave, service goes out, and I call TW again each time having to start from scratch telling the story. They are connecting not a dot.

I was relieved to see the thread on park slope. Thought I'd post here to let you know that you're not alone in GWH.

I'm ready to drop cable, drop phone, and look for a new internet provider.
  • Sixth Avenue, near 23rd, here, and we've been having the same sorts of problems for the past four or five days.
  • Well, things are feeling a lot better now. As of monday, my internet connection has been pretty steady. The guys on the Park Slope forum also are seeing better results. Not sure if our constant complaining helped at all (I've been blown away by TWC's complete ignorance of the issue), but for it couldn't have hurt!
  • 23rd St. btwn 6th/7th Aves.

I had called several times and they "suggested" i turn in our cable modem for a new one at the 24th St. payment center.

Still have not done so, but may if the problems start up again (like other is this thread).

I have dreams where purgatory looks like this.
  • I posted about about a week ago w/ our TW problems on 34th, and to be honest I haven't really been able to get online since to read the thread or give an update. We've had 2 more visits by techs since my original post, have had our entire house rewired, the wire to the main line replaced, and our modem replaced. The service is up but pathetically slow.

Today's tech. didn't know what to say about the speed. He'd just replaced the line and modem. and he couldn't come up with another answer. What else is there to replace? He was at a loss.

I've called TW so many times in the last few weeks.
  • By FCC laws, they are required to match the up/down speeds guaranteed in your contract, or at least within a small amount from the top end.

I'd call, ask for a supervisor and remind them of that. If your speed is off, then they should be refunding you the difference.

    My 2 cents.
