Cars towed from Prospect Place on 4/10/10?

Our car was on Prospect Place, between Vanderbilt and Carleton, but today when we went there we found that the whole block had been cleared by ConEd for some emergency work. There are no ConEd workers on site, and the Police Precinct has no info. Does anyone know how to find out where the cars are? I also used the online car located for cars towed by NYC and the info is not there. Thanks.

  • Did you walk around the neighborhood? My friend's car was moved a few blocks away by the police and they still had no info for her. She found it by walking around the neighborhood.
  • Thanks, we will look around.
  • I was told by the workers that they were installing a new electrical vault on Thursday, however, it was in front of the small parking lot and extended back to Vanderbilt. The company name on the truck must have been an outside contractor, sorry, can't remember the name. Began with an M.
  • Try the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Kent St entrance. Maybe at the car pound??????
Or, try the pct. for the area. 6 Ave. near Flatbush?????Just a thought
Were notifcations placed on poles days before????? On the cars???????
    Good luck
  • I don't think the block was posted, the job just sort of grew. I think the contractor was Metro Electric, BUT, please don't quote me. I remember the sign vaguely and it somehow referred to NYC, but not Con Ed, NYC or Verizon.
I'll try to remember to take a look at the barricades for info.
Gheesh, it was probably planned but not zoned or licensed properly. No follow through to the precinct, etc.
  • If all else fails call the Highway Inspection and Quality Assurance (HIQA) (718) 802-4330. They are in charge of approving any emergency permits to open up the street. You'll get an answering machine today, don't know if they'll call back. They should have on record the contractor with all his liability WC and disability ACORDs. Highly unlikely it was done illegally. The fines are onerous for doing so.
This of course if it was a job for ConEd . If it involved a connection to an individual building then you need to go to the DOB site and start plugging addresses into their "Building Information System" on the right hand side. Click on Permits issued and look for current dates.

BIS is currently crashed and can't get up.
