I agree that Franklin Park backing out at the last minute like that would be incredible shitty. (Although they didn't have a restaurant last year, so donating a food truck may have not happened since they didn't serve food...)
Why are they the only business being called out. Every single bodega on Franklin Avenue donated? (788? really?) Every single other business in the area helped out? I find that hard to believe, but would love to be proved wrong, 100%. It almost seems like because they're a new "gentrifying" business it's expected that they give a lot, but older businesses may not.
I really don't like black-listing a business or saying things like "stop taking and start giving back" ... they ARE giving back by providing a space for people to sit down and eat, a space for people to drink and socialize, a space for a local CSA to operate, a space (like tonight!) to have local author's read and gain exposure, a place for social events, benefits, and other things. Just because they don't give to your event doesn't mean they are only taking from the community and not giving anything back. -
in reading that again, I didn't mean to sound so argumentative or accusatory. sorry!

Wow. I had no idea that the discussion had gotten this deep. I thought folks were still reviewing the food...
JUST DO SOMETHING... ANYTHING... IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE MONEY
It would be nice if every business gave to every cause every time they are asked to - of course then there would be no businesses left. Okay, so FP didn't make good on the food truck. If they actually promised to provide it along with free food, then that is quite awful. If FP/DB didn't come through on their promise to participate last year, why would anyone think that they would be participating this year? That seems counter intuitive. Why would you want anything to do with an organization that doesn't want anything to do with you? I don't get it. Something is missing. Regarding the truth being out, every story has two sides and I would love to hear the FP version.
BTW, is putting someone on blast in a public forum the best way to handle the situation? Grandma always said you catch more flies with honey. I mean, when the owners signed their original lease, was there a clause that stated that they are now responsible to participate in child street fairs? I doubt it. I don't think it should be automatically assumed that they should be expected to contribute to the fair.
Regarding "JUST DO SOMETHING...ANYTHING..." It appears that FP is contributing to the community in the way they see fit, CSA, book readings, and making another investment in the community be opting to open DB. Sure, they are in business to make money, but thriving businesses are good for us too! That may not sit well with a certain section of the community, but such is life. I appreciate your enthusiasm and I'm sure your event will be a "HIT" with the kids again - with or without FP and DB, so why stress it? -
It's ok.... i just deleted the post. I only responded because i was asked to. Telling the truth or expressing how you feel isn't always the answer. So to answer everyones question... no... they didn't donate. But it's ok, because it's going to be another great event for the kids. it's not about business owners... it's about the kids & who helped raise funds. thanks and it was nice meeting all of you.

It's good to see another business on the block, and it is we hope that they prosper, as their success equals the neighborhood's success, right? What of the element that they attract, however? There have been many complaints about the cigarette smoke, and noise of Franklin Park
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
yea, the franklin park and dutch boy types are KILLING this neighborhood. who is complaining about cig smoke? the dealers on franklin and st johns? -
Not to bring an 'off-topic' topic off topic, but...Dutch Boy doesn't hold a candle to Bristen's. I'm talking specifically Burgers and Fries. Not to mention Bristen's is BYOB so you won't be spending all those hard earned bucks on overpriced beer.

I don't get it. What's funny about what I said?

Dutch Boy made a donation to the Kid's Day event to occur on Franklin between Sterling and Park Place!!!
Thank you Dutch Boy, and Dutch Boy fans. I heard it throught the grapevine that it was THIS discourse that helped to spur the donation. So you see, conversation counts. I for one will unleash the masses, and alert them of Dutch Boy's benificence. -
