For music lovers who want to spend a beautiful day visiting the pioneers who’ve changed their lives, on Sunday, April 25, Friends of Woodlawn offers a walking tour of the final resting places of the Jazz Greats of Woodlawn Cemetery.

From the dawn of the Jazz Age until today, hundreds of celebrated jazz musicians have been memorialized at Woodlawn, including W.C. Handy, Coleman Hawkins, King Oliver, Bricktop, William “Sonny” Greer, Charles “Cootie” Williams, King Oliver, Arthur Whetsol, Sandy Williams, Milt Jackson, and Florence Mills. Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, Miles Davis and Max Roach are together in Woodlawn’s famous jazz corner. Cost: $10 per person, $5 for seniors and students, children under 6 are free

Location: Group meets at the Jerome Avenue (southern) entrance, located at the intersection of Jerome & Bainbridge Ave. (across the street from the last stop on the #4 train), The Woodlawn Cemetery, Webster Avenue and E. 233rd St., Bronx, NY 10470

Directions: The Woodlawn Cemetery is the last stop on the IRT #4 train. The cemetery is also accessible from the Metro North Railroad Harlem Line (Woodlawn Station). For those traveling by car, Woodlawn can be reached from the E. 233rd St. exit off the Major Deegan (#13) and the Bronx River Parkway (#10).
