I grew up on Wyckoff bet. Bond and Nevins and that block has always been considered "the better part of the projects" Not sure how it is now but it wasn't so bad. I think walking along Hoyt (from Wyckoff to Douglass) isn't so bad during the day but in the late evening I would avoid it - but just like every part of Brooklyn I suggest a cab after a certain hour.
