What's the area like by the Bedford-Nostrand G? — Brooklynian

What's the area like by the Bedford-Nostrand G?

Subject: What's the area like by the Bedford-Nostrand G?

I'm considering a sublet off the G train, Bedford-Nostrand stop. What's the neighborhood like? Do you feel comfortable walking home late at night (I typically get home from work around 1 or 2 AM)? And how unreliable is the G train on nights/weekends? I've heard the service kind of sucks after business hours.

  • I wouldn't consider that area without walking around at different times of the day and night so gauge your own comfort level. Night is a different world, especially in warm weather. The train is usually fine, you need to keep awareness, but so many people exit at the same time that there's comfort in that. My main concern would be exactly where your sublet is and how much you'd have to deal with Nostrand Avenue.
  • I've lived two blocks away from the Bedford/Nostrand G stop, on the Bedford side, for the last year and a half. I like the area, there are a lot of cute coffee shops and restaurants in the area. You have access to a lot of different buses, which are great to learn especially if you dont want to take the G late night. If I were you, I'd look more towards the Bedford side, this way you are getting closer to Clinton Hill. I dont ever feel scared late night and I have come home at all hours. I just try to keep very aware of my surroundings, as I would in any neighborhood late night.
