For New Yorkers seeking a weekend reprieve from the concrete jungle, on Sunday, May 16, Friends of Woodlawn offers a walking tour of one of the city’s most magnificent landscapes. With over 400 acres of rolling hills and an astounding collection of trees and shrubbery unique to any urban setting, Woodlawn Cemetery’s open space is unrivalled. Six of New York City’s “Great Trees” are here, anchoring an environment that is sanctuary to a rich array of flora, fauna, birds and insects rarely seen in New York City’s landscape.

WHEN: Sunday, May 16, 2:00 p.m.

COST: $10 per person, $5 for seniors and students, children under 6 are free

LOCATION: Group meets at the Jerome Avenue (southern) entrance, located at the intersection of Jerome & Bainbridge Ave. (across the street from the last stop on the #4 train), The Woodlawn Cemetery, Webster Avenue and E. 233rd St., Bronx, NY 10470

DIRECTIONS: The Woodlawn Cemetery is the last stop on the IRT #4 train. The cemetery is also accessible from the Metro North Railroad Harlem Line (Woodlawn Station). For those traveling by car, Woodlawn can be reached from the E. 233rd St. exit off the Major Deegan (#13) and the Bronx River Parkway (#10).
