there are a bunch of threads about this but .. off the top of my head:

    heights coffee
    le gamin
    the library's cafe
    soda
    sepia
    prospect perk
  • not quite cafes but also fun in warm weather:

    brooklyn museum sculpture garden

    and therefore

the parts of the botanic gardens that border the sculpture garden (benches by the wisteria arbors near the eastern parkway entrance for sure, i suspect also the benches overlooking the cherry esplanade and rose garden)
  • Healthy Nibbles across from Burrito Bar has wireless too, and underrated patties!
  • that avatar is scary.

It's from this whacked-out video of a cable access show from Los Angeles:
http://bygdan.blogspot.com/2006/04/amen-bitches.html (possibly not safe for work -- there's some cussing). Amen, bitches!

Heit, the avatar is a hoot but it's so huge-mongous that it's messing up the page formatting. Any way you can make it smaller, purty please?

if you don't mind walking a bit, Outpost on Fulton st. between Grand and Classon aves. is my new favorite place. Tillie's on Dekalb and Vanderbilt is also nice, but they don't want you to charge your computer there (to save on power).
  • Thanks for bringing up the power issue, muteflute. I usually work at home on my desktop, but I do have an old laptop that I could dust off for cafe use. The problem is that the battery is totally shot and I have no interest in investing in a new one, since the computer is 5 years old. And when I say "shot," I mean that the computer would probably start up and then immediately shut down if it weren't plugged in.

Is there any one among these cafes that I should seek out as particularly amenable to sitting near and using an outlet, given the 100% likelihood of my needing to do that?

honestly, I'm not sure how to resize a .gif effectively

    so I'll change it to:

as for that...Outpost is great--they have a bunch of tables in the back with outlets nearby and the bar up front also has outlets under it. Heights Coffee has a bunch, and I think--think, mind you--that Muddy Waters has both wireless and outlets, but it's so frickin expensive, i avoid it on principle.

As for no's, I would include:

    gorilla coffee
    prospect perk
tillie's (they didn't yell at me when I had my laptop plugged in, but i guess they would have had they noticed)

That's all I know about the matter. anyone else?

It's hard to resize an animated gif, because you'd probably have to resize each frame individually. You'd be better off just picking another avatar.

And thanks, muteflute--I'll give one of those a try next time I get cabin fever.
  • One of the rooms on the second floor of the GAP library has tons of outlets you can plug into, and they have wifi. Unfortunately, they don't have outlets by the cafe area, so you have to choose between free power and caffeine with your wifi.
