I need a mattress
I went to a bunch of stores including Macy's and Park Home Furnishings, but couldn't find a mattress. I'm looking to spend $300-500 on a full and was hoping I could just walk somewhere in the Slope, if anyone has any recs. I've heard bad things about Sleepy's (my last one was from there and I hate it, also re: bed bugs). Is there anywhere else? Thanks!

I have never heard anything bad about Sleepys and I purchased my last 2 mattresses from them without any problems.
-
Yeah, be sure to get the benefit of a big holiday sale.
The current Memorial Day Sale, for example (50% off). -
Got my full mattress & spring box from Sleepy's on 5th ave
Excellent price, free delivery (or pretty cheap -can't remember) Absolutely no problems, good sales men that will cut you a deal (The softer mattress was on sale but we wanted the firm and he offered us the the sale price on it) so you can haggle to a lower price. -

WTF does that mean? You bought a mattress from sleepys and it had bedbugs?
Come on dude... -
No, I read reviews about how Sleepy's collects mattresses (pickups, curbside) and delivers new mattresses in the same truck and could/have give(n) bedbugs.
Sounds fine, then! I guess I'll go there, haha -
The new mattresses are sealed in plastic bags.

Oh.... I read that to.... just now... on this board.
I also read that Jay Z is buying the Tea Lounge, that Flipsters has sex parties after hours, and Julius Orange just launched a transvestite dating site.
Also, check out this link... it will clear everything up:

ha! And yet I am still not enticed to go in there......maybe now more than ever. I don't think I want to know what lurks beneath the pork pie hats and plaid of the locals. -
Not in the Slope, but for good value mattresses try Ikea.
-
sleepys has always had terrible service when i've gone in.
we ended up at a family shop-dreamy's on flatbush & 7th.
the mattress is great, got it for a great price and delivery was quick.
and no bed bugs. -
Subject: mattresses
I buy all my mattresses from Macy's when they have their holiday sales, coming soon. Never been disappointed. Check out the showroom on 34th st. -
As someone already said, mattresses are always on sale on holidays. Just pick up a newspaper this weekend and there will be tons of ads and you can compare. Your timing is perfect!
I suggest getting the best quality one you can afford, otherwise you might have to replace it in two years. -
I buy mines from ethnic shops, always bargain with cash etc.. usually you can get one for like 500 bucks.
-
I believe there's a sleepy's outlet on 5th avenue as well...
-
I have to give a shout out for Ikea. We have gone through many choices based on the hard/soft/springs/ no springs And what we bought at Ikea has just proved to be the most comfortable for us.
-
i went through 3 ikea mattresses in 5 years. They wear down faster then cheap pillows. Total waste of money on my end.

Just as an experiment we put some automatic word replacement rules in place 24 hours ago that replaced certain (only a few) profanity words with silly expressions and a bunny smiley.
This had already replaced words in several peoples' posts yesterday (including a few of Drunken Revival) and so he was just making a joke about your response to him as follows:Drunken Revival wrote: [quote=canyontothesky]Fineeeee :-P
#$dkjd00494jnfhdffjo03498 Smiley face.... ugh,2w0394j
...as if you had actually used the f word in response to him and it was replaced by the filter to like all nice.
I was just responding to verify that your post was indeed exactly as it appeared, not some foul language that had been replaced. -
jeffrey don't replace them with smiley face, just a moded word ((naughty word or ("mod" been traditionally used on the net since the beginning for replacing cursing etc...) )so people would know what was said.
-
i've used sears online - really inexpensive and cheap delivery.

Yep, we've been discussing this among the moderators.
Our goal is not to censor, just to lighten things up so peoples' first response is to laugh and not dive into combat immediately because
Someone Is Wrong On The Internet, lol.
So yeah, we'll come up with something a little less dorky and try that. -
i sleep on an air mattress (aerobed brand, which i highly recommend) plus a 4-inch-thick fake temperpedic i got from overstock for around $150. it's the most comfortable bed i ever had, and if i decide to move and don't want to deal with/don't have room for the mattress, all i lose is the $150 for the temperfoam. i highly, highly recommend this route. i don't recall the cost of the aerobed, but i think it was about $100. it's immune to infestation by bedbugs 'cause it's filled with air. stays inflated extremely well - i plug it in about every 2 months when it starts to get mushy. it'll be a long time if ever than i go back to a regular mattress.
i should note i have a platform bed (with storage! yay ikea!). i don't think this idea would work in place of a box spring plus mattress. but you could definitely put an aerobed-plus-temperfakic on top of a box spring if you already have one.)
i don't recommend the aerobeds that are as tall as a real bed. air technology just hasn't advanced that far i guess.
if you go this way, ignore all the horrible warnings on overstock about the stench of temperfoam. it smells a tad rubbery for about 5 days, then that goes away. -
If you don't plan on moving frequently, I recommend a water bed. We've used the same wood frame for almost 30 years, and have replaced the liner and the heater once or twice in that time, and the mattress about three times.
Depending on how much firmness you want, and how much wave action you like (or tolerate), mattresses run from under $100 to over $400.
For anyone with back problems, there's nothing better than a firm and heated water mattress. -
This thread is the funniest fizzle shwizz I have read in a looooooooooong time on this board.
Everything you hear about Flipsters after hours is true. I and my sometimes drunk friend can attest.
INelson, sorry to tell you that bbs can get into the seams of your aerobed and also inside the blow up mechanism. Heh heh. -
you're SO not sorry. you gave it away with the gloaty heh heh. i'm on to you....
dammit, WHY did you ruin my illusion of bedbug-proofiness? WHYYYY?
