What is this? Identify this thing game...

My Question: What is this plant that started growing in an empty pot. You can't see it here in the pic, but it now has a little cone that's grown out of the very tip. Is it a weed? There is a squirrel that burys things in there sometimes, maybe that's where it started from.



Second question: What is this really heavy, all iron, frame? I can't figure out what it was used for. What can I use it for? It looks pretty cool.
