CH North Meeting - did anybody attend last night?

We unfortunately could not attend the meeting last night. Did anybody go? Was there any really great information that we missed? Thanks!

  • There were two main presenters. Chloe Trebich of the Center for Working Families talked about the new Green Jobs/Green New York program which will allow homeowners to include the cost of weatherization improvements in their utility bills. The idea is that your heating bills go down after the weatherization and so you have money to pay for a weatherizaiton loan.. The GJ/GNY enabling legislation was signed by the governor in October. NYSERDA has been trying to figure how to implement it ever since.

Also speaking was the Landmark Conservancy which has below market loans for folks improving their homes in landmarked areas or areas about to be landmarked. They also have a small grant program for distressed properties.

    Also discussed:

    1. Street signs can be purchased by homeowners or block associations for landmarked blocks through CHNA.

    2. A group is being formed to create "historic block watchers", individuals who will report instances of neglect and abandonment or renovations that violate landmarking laws.

    3. The House Tour is being conducted this Fall. Homes are being sought to be on the tour.

For more information on any of these topics, you can go to the CHNA website at: www.crownheightsnorth.org
