FREE Flag Football, Boys and Girls, Ages 5-14
The SBBL (South Brooklyn Baseball League), located in Carroll Gardens, is offering a FREE introduction to flag football, for families who are unfamiliar with this fun and fast-growing sport.
Enjoy all the thrills of football -- without all the spills!
Contact between players is NOT allowed. The ball carrier is downed by grabbing a flag on a belt around the carrier's waist. It is very safe, for players of all ages and all sizes. In fact, unlike tackle football, size is not important. Some of the best flag football players are those who are quick on their feet, or who know how to out-think defenders.
We especially encourage girls to play flag football! It might seem like a crazy idea -- girls playing football? -- but NYC high schools recently became the latest school system to join the NFL Leadership program, and high schools and colleges across the nation are adding flag football as a girls' sport. So start early, and learn this great game!
Our FREE sessions will be held at Van Voorhees Field, located on Columbia Street near Atlantic Avenue (right off the Atlantic Ave exit on the BQE, near Long Island College Hospital). Easy to get to by car, or take the F/G train to Bergen Street.
SUNDAY, July 11 and July 18
Boys and Girls, Ages 5-10: 1:00-2:30 pm
Girls, Ages 11-14, 2:30-4:00 pm
If you like it when you try it, please note that we continue these Sunday sessions, for a fee, for the remainder of the summer. Registration forms will be available. There is no obligation.
We also put together teams that play in the NFL Flag Football League in PROSPECT PARK in September-November. The age divisions are as follows:
COED: Ages 7-8
COED: Ages 9-11
BOYS ONLY: Ages 12-14
GIRLS ONLY: Ages 12-14
BOYS ONLY: Ages 15-17
Important to note here is that the registration deadline for the fall is early -- JULY 31 -- so if this interests you, please register early!
