Gentriconfrontation is no match for a marching band.
So I had a little party, and my whole block came.
And I cannot figure out how to post images here, but take a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/piratejenny
Were any of you there?
I figured that, with all the talk of gentrification on these boards, and all of the inter-neighbor squabbling that can happen, y'all might appreciate some pictures of what happens when you have a big ol' marching band on your stoop. I have the best neighbors in the world.
You can see more pictures of the fun by pixietart and michele_lee on flickr.
Ah, here we go:

Oh, yes, I was there, drinking 24-ounce Bud Light cans and trying my best to figure out to dance to "Barbie Girl," the marching-band version.
Thanks for the good ol' times. -
That's cool. What block was that?
-
St Johns between Franklin and Classon, hereafter to be known as "Tuba Lane."
-
As a side note, are any of you aware that Prospect Heights is home to an alarming percentage of the city's gypsy/balkan/circus musicians? It is.

Hmm, if they're all in PH/CH, then why do we have to go to Park Slope to rock out to Slavic soul? Seems like we should have a party here...

This is seriously 'effin awesome and made up for every depressing gentrification post that's appeared over the last few days. I love this idea.

I've been playing with Eletfa for 12 years, and we haven't been playing in New York very much recently (I'm not sure who voted to allow my bandmates to have babies), but here are some more websites:you serious? that's awesome. do you have contact info?

Warning: we don't play Balkan music, and we occasionally play Roma music, but we are all Hungarian, all the time.
Also, in another display of blatant self promotion, one of my other bands is Dallam-Dougou, which combines Hungarian music with the ancient West African tradition. Here are more websites:
