Help - My kitty is missing! — Brooklynian

Help - My kitty is missing!

My grey striper (grey tabby) 2 year old male, neutered cat went missing Friday evening, July 16th. I live on President between 7th and 8th and he likes to hang around in the backyards of the brownstones in between 7th and 8th avenues and President and Carroll streets. He is usually never gone for more than a few hours at a time. I know there is another grey tabby missing in the neighborhood as well - that tabby has white feet, mine DOES NOT.

He has no tags or collar (I know, this is terrible of me). We tried having him wear the snap off collars and he always found a way to get out of them.

If I am lucky enough to ever get him back, there will be no more outdoors for him. This is completely my fault and I am very, very sad. He is a sweet kitty.

Please contact me if you have or have seen him. 612.715.3305 or [email protected]

  • poor kitty :(, i hope a mod see's your post soon and make a sticky.
  • Have you posted signs all over your block? worked for me!
  • Thanks, I hope I get a sticky too so everyone sees it when they visit. I am working on getting the signs up this morning. I hope it works. I really miss him. :(
  • NYkittyNY - what is the story on your cat? Did someone end up taking him in and calling you or was he turned into animal control? My cat is kind of skittish around people he doesn't know so I'm just trying to figure out if he's hurt somewhere or maybe someone took him in.
  • Remember to post around the subway stops, pet stores, grocery stores. Made a sticky for you.

Was he microchipped? Also, post on craigslist, petfinder, and all the animal websites.
  • Lake, from the stories people have posted here and on Fido (they will post your missing cat on their website if you email), I haven't heard of any cats going to ACC. I've heard several stories of the cat being in the yard or basement of a nearby building and flyers seem to have helped a lot of those reunions.

You might even knock on the doors of the buildings with yards adjacent to yours and ask if they will check their yards and basements. At least leave a flyer asking folks around your block to do that.

Good luck and keep us posted.
  • Thank you everyone! I am trying to cover all my bases and am following everyone's advice - thank you! I have got a couple calls from people saying they have seen him (as recently as last night at 1 am on 8th ave between President and Berkely). So, I am expanding my search north and east and will definitely be putting up more flyers in the neighborhood. Thank you for the good wishes. I will keep you posted.

  • What a cutie! go home, boy!

Ditto what OQ said - he's likely nearby hiding somewhere.

    Please keep us posted
  • This happened to me more than once in his 17 years. One time a person took him in and called me, another time I called the ASPCA and someone had found him, and this past time a person called to tell me the vicinity they had seen him in. I found him in my neighbor's backyard. Good luck!
  • And....success! Kitty is now safe and sound back at home. The posters did the trick! Thank you all so much for your great advice. After putting up the posters yesterday morning, I received several calls throughout the day with tips on people who had seen him. Someone called last night and let me know that our kitty had been meowing outside her apartment every morning at 5 am trying to figure out how to jump up 10 feet to get back into the backyard so he could get home to us. What a relief to know that he had a sense of direction and knew where he was supposed to be. So, he was back again this morning at 5 am meowing away and we went and rescued him. Thank you again for all of your advice and well wishes. It really lifted my spirits and gave me hope yesterday.
  • Yay! Glad kitty is home again, and that somebody paid attention and called
  • What great news!
  • That is very good news. Now you will be explaining to Kitty that he is an indoor guy?
