Kids Day on Franklin Avenue! : ) 7/24/10 — Brooklynian

Kids Day on Franklin Avenue! : ) 7/24/10

This Saturday July 24th there will be the Third Annual Kids Day event. It promises to be a fun-filled day solely for the children. There will be a large number of prizes, there will be rides, and even free toys for kids of all ages. To ensure that we can hear each other speak, there won't be any music at the event, save for the laughter of kids, and kids at heart. The empty lot turned community garden will be open to the public, and all will be able to walk through it, sit on Whynot_31's benches, and enjoy the shade of the robust mulberry tree as well as the butterflies that have taken to the space. Please, come on by.

I believe the day starts at 10am, and ends by mid-afternoon. I will verify that.
The police department has long been made aware of this event, and we can rest assured that they will be there to ensure our safety, if that is of any concern. The last two events were such hits and left such a great impression on people. I guarantee you that this event -- which has more bells and whistles -- promises to be bigger and better.

The merchants on Franklin Avenue should all be thanked for their support. Without them, it would not have been possible. Please come out folks.

  • Thanks MHA sounds like fun (between which streets on Franklin?)
  • My apologies: Between Sterling Place and Park Place.
  • Don't park your car on Franklin Avenue between Sterling and Park Place on Friday night. It will be towed...
  • Might wanna make that a separate thread and I'll make it sticky in order to make that news very public here.
  • There are three hours left for the Kid's Day event on Franklin! It's a great day! Free food, fruit, water and rides! Enjoy!!!
  • Just got back from volunteering for a 6 1/2 hour shift. I am sunburnt, my feet hurt, and i am covered in cotton candy from top to bottom -- but it was great. the kids had a great time riding rides, playing games, getting nails painted, face painted, winning prizes, playing with water toys -- great event. One more hour until it's over -- if you have time, go check it out!

(and yes -- free cotton candy all day for all -- and sno-cones and popcorn too!)
  • Thank you to all who organized, volunteered, donated and in any other way made this event possible. My husband and kids just returned and really had a great time.
  • IT was great! My daughter made us go on the spinning ride several times.
  • Great job, everyone! It looked gorgeous. And you cleaned up nicely, also.
  • Awesome event. Many thanks to all who worked long hours to make it happen.
  • It WAS an awesome event. Please, if you live in the area, support the merchants who made it possible, and that's practically all the businesses on the strip, from About Time boutique. the Panamanian shipping company, LiIly & Fig, the brother with the bodega at the corner of Park Place, Bristen's, Nam Grocery at the corner of St. John's and Franklin, Dutch Boy, Pulp and Bean, and from what I understand, many more. There is a list of vendors who all gave. I am going to see if I can get it, and post it. Maybe our patronage in these hard times can constitute a 'thank you' to them for their endeavors.
  • My favorite memory from Kids Day was a message carefully printed out in pink chalk on the sidewalk Friday evening:

    KIDS ARE AWESOME!

It's so true: kids are awesome! Thanks for reminding us!
