We agree. I knew it could happen
  • I'm late to this discussion, but if the original poster is moving onto that block, even if it's not the Jewish Hospital exactly, she is welcome to join this Facebook group I started last year. Link in signature.

It meets the Jane Jacobs standard in that there are always people around on that block and a 24 hour bodega at the corner of Classon & Prospect Place. I'm a petite, white female (not sure if I look "professional") who lives nearby and I have never had any problems walking around the neighborhood, but after 10 pm at night, I limit my walks to the bodega or to the "S" train. Having the "S" nearby is a really nice option for coming home late at night. Since everyone is piling off together, it's quite safe.

All of that said, it is an urban environment. I make the same suggestion to you as I would any young woman living in the City: take a self-defense class so you'll be able to handle any issues that come up. Whether you live in Crown Heights, Greenpoint, or the UES, I'd still make the same suggestion. Awareness of your environment (taught in these classes) goes a long way.

Also, if you decide to move into our neighborhood, please say hello to me and your neighbors (a lot of whom have lived here a long time). Besides encouraging and sustaining community, there's a direct benefit to you as well: neighbors look out for each other.
You raise an interesting question but do not answer it.

Tell me, "How safe do you need to be?"
