The Persuasions perform free in Ft Greene Aug 7

THE LEGENDARY A CAPPELLA GROUP “THE PERSUASIONS” JOIN WITH THE BROOKLYN PLAZA MEDICAL CENTER, INC. TO CELEBRATE “NATIONAL HEALTH CARE WEEK” AT THEIR ANNUAL HEALTH AND COMMUNITY WELL-BEING STREET FAIR SATURDAY AUGUST 7th on LAFAYETTE AVENUE BETWEEN FT. GREENE PL. AND ST. FELIX ST. FROM 10 am to 4 pm (“THE PERSUASIONS” perform at 2 PM). Free to ALL.

The Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center (BPMC), headquartered at 650 Fulton Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has been caring for families for 32 years, providing a wide range of health care services. Incorporated as a non-profit organization, BPMC operates in part under federal authorizing legislation that convenes Community Health Care Clinics. BPMC participates annually in the “National Health Care Week” events, offering a fun day that combines health screenings and related information (including health insurance enrollment) with music, fun, games and give-aways.

“The Persuasions” first came together on the streetcorners of Brooklyn in the early 1960s, working with Senator Robert Kennedy ‘s Project Restoration, performing at local and national levels; they were part of the effort that led to the formation of the Bed-Stuy Restoration Corporation. What started out humbly in Bedford-Stuyvesant, is now a venerable a cappella institution. They have performed throughout the world and have appeared on stage, on record and on disc with such diverse artists as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Bette Midler, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson, Patti La Belle, The Neville Brothers, B.B. King, and Van Morrison. They have recorded and performed songs by artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to the Beatles, from Sam Cooke to the Grateful Dead, from Bob Dylan to Rogers and Hammerstein!

Lazetta Duncan-Moore, CEO of Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Inc. stated “We recognize that community health care and individual and family physical, emotional and spiritual well-being is more important these days than ever, and we invite the whole community to come and join us on Saturday August 7th. Our services are open and available to everyone, regardless of income, and we accept people who do not have insurance on a sliding scale. It is our intent to connect to all community members and to stay relevant to the changing needs and faces of Brooklyn and beyond!”

Jimmy Hayes of “The Persuasions” commented: “We started on Fulton Street in the 1960’s and we are honored to come back and celebrate with the community for such an important cause. I remember over 35 years ago being recorded by a Channel 7 news team in the subway station at Lafayette "C" stop because that was said to be the subway station with the best acoustics in the whole city… so to be able to play above ground at the same spot on August 7, 2010 can only mean a magical moment is in store!”
