Con Edison Greenwood Substation clean up — Brooklynian

Con Edison Greenwood Substation clean up

From the ccgh newsgroup:
A belated recap of a meeting from 2 weeks ago between Con Edison, Jason Goldberg and myself at the Con Ed Greenwood Substation on 6th Ave btwn 24th/23rd Sts. A great first meeting!

We met with substation supervisor Edward Garcia, area planner Anthony Lubrano and public affairs manager Marina Belessis Casoria.

Jason had contacted Marina after meeting her at the June meeting of CB7.

Our goal was to engage Con Ed in a similar manner as we did working with Green-Wood back in May during our block clean up and beautification event.

Our discussion ranged from "being good neighbors" to potential collaborations between the 23rd St. neighbors Assoc., the CCGH, Green-Wood and Con Ed on neighborhood issues and finally had a great discussion about upkeep around the substation.

Similar to the discussions with Green-Wood, we talked about the communities want to be a good neighbor, helping Con Ed with quality of life issues such as dumping, clean up, graffiti and the maintenance of their tree pits (and getting new ones on 24th St.) We also discussed things that Con Ed could do to in addition to their weekly clean up of their site.

I am happy to say they made some initial steps to addressing our concerns. last week they had a crew come out to weed and clean up the sidewalks and tree pits adjacent to the sub station. Yesterday I was made aware they are in the process of repainting the base of the walls surrounding the substation.

Small changes like these from Con Ed that beautify the area mean a lot to the community.

Let's make sure to be good neighbors in return:

> If you see dumping that occurs at the substation or new grafitti, please notify Edward Garcia before calling 311, his e-mail is [email protected]

> If you see small amounts of trash that YOU can clean up, please do.

> Curb your dogs (and ask your neighbors to do so as well) so the tree pits adjacent to the substation stay clean (that goes fro ALL the tree pits in our neighborhood)

> And if we do have another community clean up/beautification that includes Con Ed (and potentially Green-Wood), please volunteer your time.

With our community, Con Ed and Green-Wood working together, we can make Greenwood heights a cleaner, safer and even better neighborhood than it already is!
