Need advice on photos

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I got a really good digital camera recently the pictures I take I can print out on my printer with photo paper.

I have some great photos that I would love to print as black and whites - can anyone recommend a program that will allow me to do that. I have checked Adobe Photoshop and its seems to have more gizmos and extras than I need - plus its soo expensive. All I want to do is be able to reduce red eye, print in color and black and white. Thanks all

  • Photoshop Elements is the consumer version (both in features and price) and it retails for like $80. It'll do all that you want, plus has headroom for a ton more.

Amazon right now has it for $59 after rebate.

I recommend GIMP. It's totally free (open source GPL) and it does just about everything Photoshop does, plus more, though the learning curve is slightly steeper. It's been the main photo/image software for operating systems other than Mac & Windows for years, and is now readily available for those as well.

  • Of the two which seems to be easier to use? Do you know?

I found Photoshop easier to get into and still find it a little easier to use. It's the market leader for professional graphics people. I like Photoshop a lot but I've abandoned it for GIMP because it totally does the job for me and it's free as opposed to expensive. You could download it, try it, and if it's too much of a hassle for what you want to do, uninstall it and buy Photoshop.
  • Thanks so much!!
  • If you have a Mac use iPhoto, it's really easy. If you have a PC try the program that came with your camera. I think you will be really frustrated with Photoshop or GIMP.
  • picasa! free download from google. everything you need for basic photo editing and organizing all of your pics.
