Help! The Ranking System Sucks (Was: Fun with Numbers)

Congrats!
-
Plus there must be at least ten of us "Grand Master" weirdos.
-
Yes, I have to knock you Grand Masters down a peg ... "post inflation" is giving you a big head.
And that goes double for the king of the Grand Masters: the hyper-prolific "Anonymous Guest", who has posted 537 times in the past 4 months. -
Zut alors!
-
Did you set up a series of titles, so that as we continue to post, the titles get sillier and sillier? Other boards I use have insanely detailed sets of titles.
Of course, I'm only asking this question to inflate my post count. 8) -
Yes... Our system of "Newbie, Regular, Insider, Grand Master" proved to be too easy to crack. We've got a whole army of Grand Masters out there, and while I do cower in your presence, it's time to raise the bar.
I'm all out of creativity (and all full of deadlines) today. Suggestions? -
"Creates Outdoor Loudness"
"Heats Home with Oil"
"Black Nouveau Riche"
"Hates Vegetarians"
"Has 77th Precinct on Speed Dial"
"Bruce Ratner's Love Child"
"Keeps Chickens"
"Memorized Soda Jukebox"
"Can't Stay Logged In"
"Has No Life" <---- that should be mine -
Great. Reminds me of the "audience subtitles" on the 1970s SNL reruns.
Now we are on a roll... here are more, from noob to leet:
"Doesn't Get 'ProHo' Joke"
"Hasn't Been to The Islands"
"Waiting for Property Values to Drop"
"Walks Down St. Johns with Exposed iPod"
"Name-drops 'Tish'"
"Covets Peter Max's Newswalk 'vettes"
"Misses Hot Bird"
"Gets the 'ProHo' Joke" -
Oh, Isa's idea is better than mine, which was to use random silly titles like "Ambassador" and "Archbishop."
I also think you should maybe spread them out a little more in terms of number of posts. If Isa and other no-life-havers like me keep it up, we could go through a title every couple of weeks. You could spread out the titles so they take longer to get:
0 - "can't stay logged in"
50 - "creates outdoor loudness"
150 - "bruce ratner's love child"
300 - "has 77th precinct on speed dial"
500 - "memorized soda jukebox"
800 - "heats home with oil" etc.
Also, while we're talking about running the site, if you ever need modly help, I'm a mod on another phpBB site and basically know how to use it (though not the site admin stuff like setting up the cookies thing, alas). Not that there's a lot of moderation required here, but I still think all hell could break loose when you do the print edition. -

Laughing Guest was me, which should also be a rank
"Guest = me" -
If Isa got credit for all her logged out posts, she would surely have reached "Remembers when Half was Better" by now, at least!
-
guest=me
(and I would have "loves the incessant mr. softee truck music" -
guest=me (again)
-
I am posting this in a lame attempt to catapult myself from Newbie to Regular. (Though if the logout problem didn't exist, I'd be there by now, dagnabit.)
-
i know, being a "newbie" was SO embarrassing! i'm relieved that phase of my life is over.
-
i'm wondering what the stat is now
. -
There are now about 600 registered users.
2 people have post counts >1000 (guess who?)
9 people >500
42 people >100
191 people >5
Some of that is deceptive--some of the old-time people (like, from June
) had a lot of trouble staying logged in at first, so there are probably a lot more people who have >500 posts but are stuck in the 400 range due to posts not getting "credited" to them. -
you guys need new tittles for the post counts. too easy to get grandmaster.
case in point i got it less than a week of posting

Only 9 above 500? I feel so special right now.

The most hilarious part of it is that I probably didn't even break the hundreds until like 2 months ago when I gave up all pretense of working and just started posting all the time. -

Might I suggest starting a blog rather than attempting to turn this into a one-person message board?
