Wireless Parks

I wasn't aware that there are plans to make all or most of the city's parks wireless. Looks like both Prospect Park and Fort Greene Park are scheduled to have wifi within the near future.

  • yep, it's true. i read it this morning in the nyt also.

this will succeed in bringing more ppl out to the park on nice days, with their laptops, surfing porn to their heart's content.
  • I've had good results with wifi in Madison Square Park, but was underwhelmed by the access at Bryant Park the one time I tried it. It was almost impossible to get on the network, and when I did it was so slow that I often lost the connection before being able to load a single page. Obviously, there are tons of people sharing that connection, which slows things down immensely, and I'm only basing this opinion on one afternoon.

Hopefully, the Prospect park wifi will be more like the Madison Square Park experience.
  • Cool, I like the part where they say residents and businesses near the park will likely be able to tap into the network. I live across the street from the park, so this could save me the 50 bucks a month I pay for my cable modem!
