Has anyone broke the lease at Brooklyn Gold...277 or 257 ? — Brooklynian

Has anyone broke the lease at Brooklyn Gold...277 or 257 ?

Just wondering what happens if I want to break the lease and not risk going into limbo for the next several months. :?: :? :(

  • About the only leverage a tenant has when there is no good reason to break their lease is offering to sign a one page agreement that gives possession immediately to the LL making the lease null and void. If you simply walk away they would have to go through a non payment proceeding which would take up to 60 days uncontested. Other then threatening and sputtering to ruin credit ratings, it's not really worth the effort, but if forced to get possession via the court system your name becomes part of a public record available to scumbags who make lists.
  • If the lease promises access by September 1, 2010, and there still is no access, that might very well give you the leverage necessary to get the landlord to offer the one-page agreement, together with return of any deposit you may have made.
  • Well we just got told it would be another week! We did have an Oct. 2nd move in day. We had to tell our current landlord what the deal was and of course have to pay another full months rent of $2000! This blows!
