LOCAL CHEF’S CELEBRATE AUTUMN’S HARVEST WITH WEEKLY COOKING DEMO’S AT THE PARK SLOPE FARMERS MARKET!
Ossining, NY (Sept, 2010) On Sunday, Sept. 26th Fumiko Akiyama, owner of Park Slope’s Kappa Sake House, will demonstrate how to make two different kinds of miso soup using local produce and seafood at the Park Slope Farmers Market on 5th Avenue between 3rd and 5th Streets in Brooklyn. The event marks the first in a series of weekly cooking demos given by local chefs at the Farmers Market. Each demonstration will be held from 2 to 3:30pm and will feature local, farm-fresh ingredients.
Akiyama is excited to promote her healthy miso soups while educating shoppers about adjusting ingredients based on what’s available at the farmers market. Her restaurant’s mission is to go beyond sushi, bringing a more authentic taste of Japan to Brooklyn. The next week’s demonstration on October 3rd will feature the chef at Belleville, a Michelin Guide recommended Parisian Bistro. Aunt Suzie’s, where the cooking is grounded in southern Italian and Brooklyn roots, will give a demonstration on October 10th. The rest of the schedule for October is available at www.communitymarkets.biz. Shoppers will be able to taste each chef’s creation and take the recipe to try at home.
“We’re so fortunate to be surrounded by all of these wonderful restaurants,” says Miriam Haas, Director of Community Markets. “It makes sense to use the farmers market as a place to celebrate the diversity of cuisines available on 5th Avenue while demonstrating how to incorporate local foods into all types of dishes.”
The restaurant cooking series is the result of a collaboration between the 5th Avenue Business Improvement District and Community Markets. [Insert quote from Irene here].
